Jake Thackray appreciation thread.

Ta.

Another thing on that docu-biog programme last night - someone said he had a mix of socialist, anarchist and catholic political views, but was never in any kind of organisation. However, a friend of mine who was a big fan of his back in the day onece told me he was briefly in the swp. Can't really imagine him 'selling the paper'

Aah, so good to see appreciation for thackery. My mate had an album when we were squatting together years ago, we used to like little coal black foal best, played it over and over. RP never sounded so good.
Gutted I missed the programme, had no idea it was on .

Recorded the documentaries and haven't watched them yet, but another big thumbs up for Thackray, a much under appreciated artist. Comparing Scott Walker to Jake Thackray just because both at one point covered French chansonniers is pretty pointless as they were so different. Thackray was much more down to earth, understated and certainly a lot less pretentious. He had just as beautiful a voice as Walker though and unlike Walker he was a truly gifted lyricist. I can't think of a less sentimental yet more touching love song than Lah-Di-Dah, though my favourite of his is probably The Rain On the Mountainside which is as beautiful as anything Nick Drake has ever done.
