Jade's Legacy on ITV 1 now (8pm Mon 9th)

I don't think it's for us to judge whether her life has been 'worthwhile' or a 'waste of time' - certainly she hasn't done anything 'worthwhile' enough to the justify the insane media interest in her life, but that's a criticism of the media, I can hardly blame her for taking advantage of it.

I notice how you aim that remark at me instead of the person who said her life was a waste of time.

When is the coverage going to stop, when she's lying there skeletal and she draws her last breath?

Well it certainly won't stop before then that's for sure. Unfortunately what you and May describe Griff is the flipside to lives being saved through increased awareness of cervical cancer.

You say that like the relentless depiction of her total physical failure is intrinsic to the raised awareness. Which it isn't. I'm all for raising awareness about this shitty disease, really I am, but nobody needs a warts-and-all diagram to go with it.

Of course it is (sadly). It's only when people see just how horrible an illness really is, warts and all as you put it, that they react and do something to prevent (or try to prevent) it happening to them. I hesitate to draw a comparison because I don't want to insinuate that Jade's life has descended to the level of a cig advert but it's the same reason the anti-smoking ads have had the impact they have with hideous images of arteries oozing gunk and a mouth with missing and blackened teeth or the drink drive ads.

That's not why Jade has done it though, I'm not saying that, she's done it for the money as we know. The raised awareness is a side issue as far as Jade's concerned imo.

It is very complex, I agree. I can't blame her for exploiting an existing market in order to make money for her soon-to-be-motherless boys, but then that market wouldn't exist if she hadn't made such a spectacle of herself one way or the other...the public, the media and the woman herself are all culpable to varying degrees, but then there is the hopefully positive side effect of raised awareness...

It's not for me to pronounce the whole circus good or bad, I just find it terribly upsetting because every headline I see brings back the experience of watching my brother die in intensely painful detail. I was awake at 3am this morning reliving it.

I find it totally un-amazing that the tenuous link between Jade's demise and supposed 'raised awareness' is just the latest ploy to justify the wholesale marketing of every possible aspect of her life.

TBH I find the individual at the centre of all this somewhat irrelevant. The shame is that we have a society that turns such nonsense into an art form, that it is endlessly peddled for profit and that there is such an audience for every detail. Ordinary woman who perhaps inadvertantly made an idiot of herself on tv dies of cancer elevated to the centre of what passes for news = sad indictment of our society.
