Jacqui Smith's Husband Porn Subscribtions

Be great if you wanted a HoC full of nurses and teachers. But another viw is the Hoc may benefit from a range of professional skills including lawyers, accountants, successful business people, doctors, middlle/senior management, etc - all of whom, at the present time, have to take a pay cut to go to the Commons.

But we have a Commons that is already full of lawyers, accountants, doctors, middle/senior management and "successful" businesspeople - as well as a rather larger number of those who have lived their whole working lives within the cosy world of local/national politics.

We do not appear to be seeing any benefit from this, aside from state-sponsored porn.

No, it's really not. As argued in the other thread it's less than a competent IT programmer gets at aged 30 in the City and a lawyer 4 years out of Uni. You can pay shit, but you'll get a lot worse than the current shower.
That's nice. So everyone earning less than £63k is 'a lot worse than a politician'. Charming. A a nice way to measure worth.

Many would think it a little selfish to move the family into smaller housing and general circumstances in order for the newly elected MP to do a job until the voters threw them out. Many people aren't prepared to allow that to happen to their families because of their personal ambition, thus a pay cut excludes them - 'them' being professionals with proven track records.

But it's sunny and I'm gone.

Um.. plenty of professionals get paid well less than politicians.

People from business move into jobs like teaching for example, does that mean we should start the basic salary of teachers at £63k or more?

Most people realise that taking a job in the public sector that is about job satisfaction/ doing good means earning less than a private sector job. People make these decisions all the time. Why should MPs differ? I really don't get it?

Nurses and social workers are 'professionals' too, are you saying their jobs are somehow less worthy because they get paid less?

Somebody isn't getting any.

Would you want some?

It must be fairly emasculating in that house for him, being married to the Home Secretary, entirely dependent on her for your income, reduced to writing pathetic letters in praise of her to the local press, and also having to live with the shame of it being publicly known that your wife would rather live in a box room in Peckham with her sister than with you. FFS the bloke didnt even know how to get free porn on the interwebs, but had to claim for it off her job.

We should pity him, not judge him.

To be fair to the poor bloke, she didn't prefer it and she didn't do it either. She claimed her sister's house as her main residence so that she could claim the far greater expenses associated with the luxurious family home.

Same con as that Labour tosser who claimed his main residence was a beach chalet and his second home a rather more luxurious affair in his constituency. Remarkably, his official Labour website states that he and his wife head out to the chalet at weekends, suggesting that he may have to repay the £301k in expenses he's claimed since 1990, having incriminated himself rather effectively. Jail time is surely too much to pray for.

There does seem to be a remarkably high correlation between greed and stupidity in all this. Perhaps we should pay them more just for the lulz. :D

Did you see his statement to the press?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7970731.stm

He sounded like a schoolboy who had been pulled up in front of the whole school. Why did he need his little piece of paper? It's not like it was a complicated statement.

"I am really sorry for any embarrassment I have caused Jacqui. I can fully understand why people might be angry and offended by this."
He goes on to mention that the money has been paid back. But no direct apology to the British public who funded his nocturnal fumblings!

What a wanker!

If you think people become MP's for the money we're on diff planets. Anyone mid-career with a proven professional track record has to take a pay cut to go to the Commons.

Most people in most jobs in this country are on much less money than MPs, without any of the expenses. And they all seem to be snout-deep in that trough. What a shower!

Today's apology from Smith came as Labour leftwinger Harry Cohen, who was said to have claimed more than £300,000 in second home allowances on his house in the capital, insisted that he had done nothing wrong as it was "part of my salary". Cohen said that MPs had been told "go out boys and spend it" when the present system was introduced under Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.

this is karma after the Home Sec had the cheek to demand an apology to the parents of ecstasy victims from Prof Nutt over him telling the truth about the drug.

the story says the tv bill was added by accident - but what kind of a scammer can claim internet connection on expenses?

Did anyone see her on that Sunday morning politics programme a couple of weeks ago? Patiently explaining how above board her expenses were and that.

Ach, she's a waste of space. This did make me laugh though.

As a taxpayer, I am pissed off that some of my hard earned money would fund the pornographic habits of the Home Secretary's husband who earns £40,000 per year. AND if she hadn't been investigated due to her housing arrangements, then this would have slipped quietly under the radar.

Considering that she's been doing expenses for several years now, is it common place for us to fund the cable television bills of MPs?

As a taxpayer i am really pissed off that such a pathetically unimportant side issue is getting so much media attention. 2 porno films how much would that cost??? £20 maybe PATHETIC....How many journalists at the BBC inflate their expenses? W ANCHORS.....
MPs shouldnt get away with some of these expenses but they are hardly alone in inflated expenses and why is that the unelected people in the media are always so happy to point out the failings of elected people rather than other people who are responsible for wasting public money?

The porno films were just the cherry on the cake. There's shitloads of OTHER stuff they've uncovered in her expenses. Including washing machines and other kitchen items. Not to mention the regular TV subscriptions and broadband.

Whoever did her expenses, has made a series of mistakes. The porno thing got most publicity because it's tabloidworthy.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Yeah right...

Goes and checks my payslip for 55% of that figure, and there was me thinking I was reasonably well off!

But you'd be a shit MP as you're not earning anywhere near enough to be of sufficient calibre to 'run' the country. Apparently.
