All the politicians always are! I maintain that David Mitchell has been the best guest I've seen on there and would love him to take on Griffin!

Straw is actually a more wily operator than one might think. For sure we normally see him as a bog standard Nu Labour defeindnig hack, but he has won vicious fights against trots and other politcal enemies in the past. He has got where he is by tactical political nouse.
Don't get me wrong, his nouse is used in an utterly cynical and reactionary way usually, but he is someone who could with the experience to point out the gross contradictions and lies of Griffin.

why exactly do you want to make race an issue? Beyond that if race is an issue, can't see Nick Griffin competing effectively for black votes as it is

I don't think they had the whole party to choose from anyway, they had a tiny handful of MPs who were clean on the expenses and free of any other scandal. There's really no victory to be hand in Jack Straw 'beating' Nick Griffin anyway.

However good Mr Straw is on the fly (and I think he's as over-rated as Mr Griffin), as others have said, he'll be shackled by Labour policy. The government seem pathologically incapable of realising that as part of the problem, they can't be part of the answer. If they had any sense they'd avoid the programme altogether and nudge an outsider on.

because they're the ones that have announced that they reckon it's necessary to put the Foreign Secretary up against a brand new MEP? An announcement apparently made by the PM himself, just to add to the sense that Griffin is the most important figure in national politics atm.
anyway I'm hoping Widdicomb represents the blues, Straw's too dull for a proper spectacle.
