Jörg Haider dies in car crash

This seemed to be on the news for most of our fortnight in Berlin, first the crash, then the "twice the speed limit", then the "four times over the drink/drive limit", and then the (unintentionally, I suspect) funeral, with the camp uniforms and military pomp and circumstance.
Most Berliners appeared to be remarkably cheerful about it, though.

I saw an article on this in the Independent yesterday. The headline was 'Haider's gay affair,' but on actually reading the article it didn't say that they had had a physical relationship, just that they were very close and that Petzner idolised him. It suggested that there was certainly a big undercurrent of homoeroticism to the relationship, but that's hardly a 'gay affair,' is it?

It has been suggested many times that Haider had a gay relationship. I recall speaking to a couple of Austrians about Haider and they were the ones who brought it up.
