I've moved to Clapham on purpose

oh yes.. love Sappho - it's been ages since we went - years in fact. Probably because we are still full from last time.

Cafe Sol - also on the High Street - is meant to be very good if you like Mexican food. (I like it but can't eat anything that has peppers in it :( makes me very ill.)

What's up with it? We moseyed up for a visit but at 2pm on Monday and it wasn't bloody open!
This ^ - and you can't just go for a quiet drink when it is open - they always seem to be setting up for some band/event/whatever and moving tables and chairs around.

Plus beer is sometimes off. Last time I went in there was only lager, no proper beer at all. Four hand pumps - all empty.

I used to go there at least once a week - now, less than once a month.

Lived in Clapham for a couple of years in the mid/late 90s. Used to drink in the Alexandra (just next to Clapham Common tube) which was the only reasonably-priced pub round there. Mind you, last time I was in there was in about 1997 so,,,

why would you voluntarily move to clapham? serious question.. ive never been anywhere as bland and soul-less. even croydon is vegas in comparison.

For reasons outside my control I have to kill an hour or so in Clapham once a week
so I'm inclined to have a pint or two, the manor arms on clapham manor street was
ok to sit outside but thats now a Craft Beer Company bar so well pricey, the Bread and Roses is a good choice in
happy hour [£3 a pint] but as the post above said the selection can be a bit crap.
The Rose and Crown in old town by the bus stands was a good choice with a fairly diverse crowd
however since the council have regenerated the area they have made the pub put it's outside seating behind barriers
the cloth type with silver poles you see outside night clubs, this has changed the look of the place and it's
become very popular with yuppies in the recent nice weather, so much so it's hard to find a seat....

The Manor Arms and Bread and Roses looked like nice back-streety boozers but I appreciate that nothing it like the old days :D

Yeah, the Rose and Crown is were I usually go - although I haven't been there since the regeneration. I must admit I was fearing for the worst.

I keep reading the thread title as "on a porpoise"

When I lived there there wasn't a bar that would rival a croydon weatherspoons.
certainly no coffee or any high street shops of note other than Wooworths. I left soon after the sainsburys came to town. Gentrifukingcation.

TBF the worst has not happened yet, you can still get a seat inside and the beer is still well kept, the yuppie horde has only really been outside when the sun is shining, I can only assume it's cos of the barriers and the resulting air of "exclusivity"

I have lived in W3,SW19,NW11,E8, N16, and E5, so all North, South, East and West
I have lived in more postcodes than you, but none of them were W ones.

SM1, SW9, E5, E8, E9, N17, a different SW9, SE11 & SE15.
