I've moved to Clapham on purpose

You're only a short walk from Abbeville Road Village, as estate agents successfully rebranded it about 20 years ago, which has several lovely little eateries.

The Abbeville pub has it's own farm in Hampshire!

It was much nicer when I was there in 1984/85. Went downhill when I left and moved to Brixton

Did have a fantastic chippie called The Codfather though

Clapham common station is better than south because you can get free coffee from the waitrose outside on the way to work.

I suggest you move.

I once got flashed outside one of the Clapham stations - by a woman in her 60s - she was a little refreshed - which was good going as it was on a Sunday Morning - she lifted her top after telling me she wasn't a prossie - I smiled and moved around the corner - to smiling tube staff - as it was a regular thing there apparently

 this is what I'm after - somewhere reasonable for drinks! The Windmill is not very reasonable either :(

The Duke of Devonshire on Balham High Rd, about five minutes downhill from Clapham South tube, on t'other side of the road.
Don't know what the clientele are like nowadays, but last time I was in there it was normal pub (Youngs) prices.

I reckon heading down towards balham or along to Brixton hill way might be your best bets, from clapham south.

Why clapham, btw? There must've been cheaper flats in s London nearer to ppl and places you already know.

There's tons of stuff in Clapham so there must be something for me! :D And Clapham because there aren't actually many places nthat fit the criteria. I saw several in this same enormous block before the right one came up - the letting agent chap is quite fun and it all seemed to work out. I'm happy and that's what's important :)

Clapham South tube, by Tescos has an outpost of one of the good Tooting tandoori places, forget the name. The Bread and Roses is decent, Venn St has some good restaurants and a very Claam Farmers Market on Saturdays. Macaron is a good French cafe on the Pavement. The Commons bloody lovely to have on your doorstep.

Further afield Clapham North has a good Trini takeaway, The Landor, Stockwell has the Grosvenor, the Priory Arms and Clapham Junction has good if not cheap restaurants and some of the finest charity shops in South London.

You remember I mentioned the Bread and Roses to you weeks ago - but it's not near Cla'am South. Do wot Spangles and others suggest and go to Balham/Tooting/Brixton Hill. Or Clapham North which is just as Cla'am-y but has some redeeming features probably cos it's closer to Stockwell. Your end is closer to Northcote Road and Wandsworth Common *spits*.

All better than your former domain in any case.

Well, I suppose it does help a bit but seems a shame that there's nothing anyone can think of on my doorstep. This is, of course, your failing.

Everybody will love where you live in that period where Lambeth Council threaten to only do the fireworks at Clapham Common...like they do every year. Then they'll concede like they do every year and it'll be back to "at least you can walk to Balham". Sorry.

Nardulli's ice cream place has fantastic gelato (I am even willing to walk there from Brixton on a hot day, for a treat) - as long as you can withstand the yummy mummies and petit-bateau-uniformed kids. Unfortunately their coffee is dire. Absolutely lovely people running it tho.
