I've just started cooking a stirfry..

what did you use instead then? i would have just popped down the shops and bought some soy sauce personally

well what happened was i carried on cooking and I kept checking back to look at the thread and noone was being helpful and then I saw one Idioteque had made, and i was like oh no silly person, and just smiled to myself, and then I checked back again and everyone was being horrible and stupid and 'oh yeah I'm really funny' but I was still smiling thinking someone sensible would come along, but they never did and I started to feel sad, and then my stirfry was done and it was just rice and vegetables and chilli and to be honest I overcompensated on the chilli and it was a bit too hot and burny mouthy and then I saw that the thread was still being hilarious and I started crying and the tears fell on my stirfry and it made it taste salty.

All's well that ends well :)

Best laugh I've had today. Cheers :D

If you're still crying now, it may be worth bottling those tears for future use.

Next time you run out of soy sauce, you'll have a substitute ready.

i just bought a stir fry... you know what would be perfect with it? soy sauce! luckily i have some in the cupboard, i'd look a right fool if i'd made stir fry without checking i had some of that first

what are you bumping it for then? cheap laughs?
I was only going to proffer my suggestions for the well-stocked condiments shelf.

OK then :-

Soy sauce - (shoyu and tamari), tahini, mango chutney, Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon), apple sauce, cranberry sauce, sweet chilli sauce ...

You can turn almost anything into a meal with that little lot.

(oh and Nigella's essential tinned tomatoes and frozen peas)

(HTH)
