I've just put my tent up to check it still works

One year we went down your way and the tent fell to bits as we were putting it up. So we ended up in a caravan in Rosudgeon.

It was quite a nice caravan though.

My uberdome will be entering it's 7th season this year, and apart from needing one new pole where some pissed silly arse* fell on it, it's as good as new :)

I look after my tents

*not me, honest!

It's a bit early, unless you're off camping next week ;)

We nearly went camping last weekend, but we were (ironically) in Pilton for someone's birthday.

IF the weather is favourable, we may go this weekend instead. I'm getting itchy feet and like Kanda we do a lot more than just festival camping.

Trouble is, we need to check about four tents as we seem to have a tent for every occasion! :D :p ;)

Why would rain be more 'watery' than a hosepipe?

Try hosing for three days near continuous. And also get 600 or so people to tramp all around all sides of the tent muddying up the ground and sides of the tent. For the full 'Glastonbury 2007 Resemblance Themepark Experience' (R, TM) :D :p

(For practice for 2009 however, get ultra strong halogen lamps to emit hot ultra violet rays directly over the tent 13 hours a day for a week, and make sure there's plenty of dust :D )

And remember to divert local stream under the tent to test the ground sheet.

If you were at Bestival last year this wouldn't be a bad idea.

Actually find a shallow stream and pitch it in that. If its even slightly wet inside, bin it.

Still haven't got the tent out.

nor have I and must do so soon as it wasn't really tested last year.

Oh, and I want a new trolley. :)

Recommendations anyone?

or does this weighty subject deserve a thread all to itself? :D

Bennets are still selling one I bought. Been used quite a bit now, everyone who's used it has been impressed. The only issue I have is that its well hard to pump the tyres up, but it can be done.

30 quid.

This is the one we've got, it's built like a tank and has got nice big pneumatic tyres so it can cope with rough ground :)

So, why not just use a wheelbarow and no bungies?

A wheelbarrow over rough ground will fuck your arms, and wobble around all over the place, so you'd still need to tie everything down.

Sacktruck + bungees is the way forward. Anything else will either hurt, or break.

I wasn't thinking of pushing the wheelbarrow myself. Silly Bee's :)

How about packing a bit lighter/cleverer and just carrying the stuff instead?
There's loads of stuff I need. I guess I could carry it but too many trips to and from the car is just as impractical and counter-productive as me trying to carry it tbh.

If you're doing Glastonbury trips back and forth to the car simply isn't an option, you'll be parked at least a mile away from where you camp, possibly more :)

Yeah, we'll be a bit nearer than that this time as unlike last year we'll be in staff camping, but the multiple distance-trips really are a nightmare without a trolley, if was after half killing ourselves last year that we resolved to get one

Not so much an option when you're on site for a week or for the best part of one ...

Or if there's stuff you can't do without for health reasons...

So not like being in the hills or on a motorbike then? :p

Ok, apart froom beer maybe? :D

Soon learn how little you really need for a comfy week and I've been glad of having the basics together in one pack for two of my most recent festivals - ended-up parking miles away and didn't need more than one trip for each. :)

I know what you're saying and we are able to travel relatively light to festivals, especially the smaller ones. But at Glastonbury particualrly we also want to be in reasonable camping comfort -- big tent, heavy inflatable mattress, chairs, booze, a few changes of clothes, etc. So I'd rather have a trolley than either get tortured carrying everything for miles, or have to make agonising choices between what to bring and what not ...

I used a wheelbarrow last year, it was fine. But it was my mucking-out wheelbarrow, so it's a fairly sturdy affair and well used to rough ground etc.

And yes, I forgot the bungees that I oh-so-carefully bought for it, and yes, everything fell off it and yes, I ended up doing 2 trips anyway. @ self. Won't be doing that again!
