iTunes/iPod code 'cracked'

I just checked www.argos.co.uk

For 30GB:

ipod: £190
sony: £180 (for 20GB)
creative: £220
phillips: £230

So ipod is actually the cheaper option, unless you go for a real no-name brand (which doesn't come with great jukebox software or a user interface that's actually useable)

ipods are actually pretty good value for money. Clearly Apple's got huge economies of scale and it's worth noting that many companies are effectively losing money on each player sold. Iriver's pulled out of the Euro market, Creative is increasingly losing profit margins just tryng to keep up, MS has already said it's willing to lose hefty sums on the Zune in favour of building marketshare.

Still, it's a novelty thinking of Apple as one of the cheapest players in the market.
