iTunes - distributed music repository with iPod as master?????

The Groke

hot hail/Paging Dr. Beat
Is this possible?

Ok, the scenario;

Currently I have a Mac Mini. My iTunes database is stored here as are the actual music files. Both my Nano and iPod sync to the Mini.

Today I will be getting my Macbook.

I want to leave the music store on my Mini as I use it to play music and movies in the lounge through the TV and surround speakers.

I also want my music library on my Macbook for portability and the ability to download and rip new stuff whilst on the road.

Obviously I don't really want to keep having to update the two devices manually each time I rip a new CD or buy something from iTunes.

I really only need the iPod to sync with one device, preferably the Macbook.

Is it possible to setup the iPod to be the "Master" device and control the local repository on the two devices, syncing with each as and when it connects?

If not, what other suggestions do you have to achieve what I want to achieve?

:)

Depends on how accessible your Mac Mini is...

My setup is a Mac Mini that has been Music stored on it. If I want to add music I send to the Mac Mini from my laptop and its gets checked in. If I want to transfer items to my Ipod I transfer back the music to my laptop and the Ipod syncs from there...

The Mini is placed on top of a wardrobe so it can be physcailly accessed. It also controls speakers, etc.
