its that time of year again ,when my garden smells of spunk....

maybe he has the nicest smelling spunk in the world, or some sort of non smelling spunk.

but I still, for the life of me, can't imagine what it smells like.

I am quite annoyed, I feel left out :(

So!

Not being in England as we move towards spring....

Anyone starting to enjoy the wonderful spunky aroma yet?

Or is it too early?

I seem to remember them starting during April.

MY spunky garden smell starts in June!:)

No look at the date the thread started- June 2006!

Yeah, sorry I got all excited and bumped an old spunky thread.

Still, I always thought this thread deserved to do better at the time, and now it is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Pyracantha

phewee

Same plant family (rosacea) ... pretty berries, but the flowers stink a bit like Harpic. :p

I may have to change my cycle route until the flowers are finished - this is a never-ending hedge at the top of a slope.

I can't say I've ever noticed Rowan trees in Greece, nor on the banks of the Danube. Mountain Ash, yes? I'll have to look for them next time.
You're right, Mountain Ash is another name for Rowan.

This plant smells of cat wee:

And the berries on this smell of germolene:

Nature's  innit?

This is a very interesting thread and I am a keen gardener and I'm not a prude................but I've just eaten a pork pie and I feel a little bit sick :(
I'll pop back tomorrow and see how the research is going :D

Whey hey!! its the 1st of June and like clockwork I noticed the first spunky whiffs in my garden:D
Yay!!!

The whole industrial estate near the incinerator must be jam packed with Rowan trees :) I guess those lasses hanging around there each evening must be well keen botanists :)

The pyracantha is in bloom again and my hayfever is unfortunately out of sync with it as I huff and puff my way past it every morning.

If I had it growing by my door I would take a holiday. :p

(yes Kali, I searched for "spunk" threads posted by you. :D)

I really must find a rowan to sniff this year. (note how I've neatly avoided all the obvious inuendos about Kali's garden :D)

Well...

-I've seen her garden, and although I've not actually sniffed it, by her own admission, it's rather overgrown.

:D
