Still, I always thought this thread deserved to do better at the time, and now it is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Same plant family (rosacea) ... pretty berries, but the flowers stink a bit like Harpic.

I may have to change my cycle route until the flowers are finished - this is a never-ending hedge at the top of a slope.

I can't say I've ever noticed Rowan trees in Greece, nor on the banks of the Danube. Mountain Ash, yes? I'll have to look for them next time.

You're right, Mountain Ash is another name for Rowan.

The whole industrial estate near the incinerator must be jam packed with Rowan trees I guess those lasses hanging around there each evening must be well keen botanists

The pyracantha is in bloom again and my hayfever is unfortunately out of sync with it as I huff and puff my way past it every morning.

If I had it growing by my door I would take a holiday.

The smell is the main reason I decided against planting a Rowan.

Can't say I noticed ours smelling but kali's tree is older than mine so maybe that's a joy to come??
