"Its over for CSS, its tables from now on"

Another good reason not to use new posts then innit.

You look like an idiot for confusing curtains and computer geekery AND you lose the ability to look at the top of the page apparently.

And miss out on scintillating conversations like this one? Never! You can pry it from my F5-spamming hands.

Some of us have (w3) standards to maintain:p

The builder ananolgy previously posted sums it up nicely really.

It must be awful for you knowing that hideous tables are lurking beneath this very page.

Do you feel dirty when you type in that table-laden text box?

yes...

which is testament to the quality of Urbans content that I have even typed this

is "just get it working" really what you want to be doing?

doesn't doing things to technical standards have any meaning?

and what about things like screen readers?

all the reasons i don't want to use tables for non table data seem to be valid yet when it come to the reasons for using tables over css it starts to sound a lot more like people taking short cuts... now economically that might be good in the short term but what about in the long term?

as for this forum it uses a huge missmatch of techniques... which is probably fine for the development team who built it but i'd probably hate to have to take over development

it's a bit like at work... we have a huge database written with filemaker

and it is horrible... it's not had any database design applied to it it's not even first normal form compliant eta(actually it might be 1nf but it certainly isn't 3nf)

now all the users are happy with it because at the moment it does what they want

untill a problem happens..... and then all hell breaks loose

yes it was faster cheaper and easyer to build that database.... but is it a better database? hell no...

a web page is data structured by a mark up language and when you start using tables for design purposes you have already broken the rule or seperating content and design

even if tables is the only way to do something it doesn't mean it is a good thing

CSS is the way forward... even if we can't achive that perfection now we should bloody well aim to achive it if we want to call ourselves profestionals
