Italy V France the denouement!

I don't know... I think Argentinian fans would have good reason to disagree.

Australian fans, whose team fell victim of one of the most disgraceful dives of the tournament, might also have something to say about Italy's worthiness as World Cup champions.
Bitter.

What team did not dive.

I wanted France to win, and they played better in the second half and extra time....but then when Zidane did that insane headbutt and lots of dirty play followed, I felt that Italy should win cos at least they played fairly....

Just got back walking through the streets of central London, the Italians are going MAD out there!!!

:D :D

ITALIA!!!!!

france played really well and deserved to win but as much as i like zidane, i couldnt understand his headbut. thought he was old enough to know better.
cant stand henry though so its always good to see him lose.
great match though all in all :D

As they are now world champions, why is the manner of their play 'strangely appropriate'? I love good football and thought that the French were probably slightly better than them tonight, but not so much as to suggest there was an injustice done. I thought the italians were quite ragged in the second half, I didn't think they were playing for penalties as such, rather they outplayed. Lest we forget, they had the ball in the net second half and hit the bar after the goal. France didn't get that close did they, despite playing the more 'attacking football?'
fair enough. italy held their nerve better than the french and the italian substitutions worked better in the long run. it doesn't matter how tired henry was he should have been left on up front as he can take penalties.
maradona was on cuatro, canal+ terrestrial channel.

totally agree with that. very strange decision i thought.
it was a relief to see that other countries can fuck up as spectacularly as england though. :D

Italy probably deserved it over the course of the tournament, less so over the course of the game. France were the better team from half time.

Zidane either:
a) didn't fancy taking another penalty
b) wanted to be properly remembered
c) threw the game and is now due a big payout from the Mafia
:D
i dont know if its been mentioned already but i couldnt get over how far his head disappeared into the other blokes chest in the slow motions

I didn't see another country fuck up as spectacularly as England last night. I saw a team called France score 4 out of 5 penalties and one that hit the bar and still nearly went in. All of them were well struck. That was very, very unlike England. Plus, France's track record in penalty shoot outs is pretty good. Again, unlike England.

England are the bullshitters of international football. So, it would appear, are their fans.

england have an awful record at penalties, as did the italians, who certainly came good when it was needed, agree all the penalties were well taken, unlucky to hit the bar

was it the 4th official who got the ref to send zidane off, seemed to be a long delay, looked like the ref and his two assistants had not spotted it, would have been consistent refereeing if the 4th official and got involved after the figo head butt in an earlier game

playing negatively since the 19th is pathetic.
Italy played negatively for some of the game, but after they scored they had a number of chances including hitting the crossbar and having a goal disallowed - that's not negative.

doing a "zidane"

is he now an example for the youth of today? will we see young beered up men doing a "zidane" at chucking out time, adopting a continental style of assault:D

i was referring to one bloke getting himself sent off and basically ruining any chance the rest of the team had of going through.
its a long journey to the world cup finals and to fuck it up for the team and country by losing your temper aint cool imo

Anyone know the timing of the voting there, was he effectively elected before the match??
The voting was largely done at half time, an hour before he got sent off.

:)
hit the crossbar in the first half. the disallowed goal was from a free kick halfway inside the french half which they just pinged towards the goal.
I stand by the fact that italy played negative defensive football for most of the game, particularly the second half and all of extra time.
Was there any sustained attacking pressure from the italians in this period? did they look like they were trying to engineer any?

Zidane is not rooney. it was rather uncharasteristic of him.I thought he was back on the street of marseilles as a kid dealing with someone who had showed him disrecpect. no excuse though.

Better a headbutt to the chest than to the bridge of the nose :D

Apart from the other times he's been redcarded for headbutting, or the '98 World Cup where he was suspended for some of the matches for a Rooney style stomp on the Saudi Arabian Captain.

I don't actually football, but I have since gathered from another thread that he may not be as calm as I thought.
