This is a bit of a loose interpretation of Italo, isn't it? That playlist looks better than the usual spacey disco guff, but there again it's got a hefty dose of NY Electro throughout it.

I remember Italo being a big pile of airy fairy derivative toss in the main, but I understand it's going through a bit of a revisionist revival. I get the feeling that I'd like the retelling of it now more than the original selections.

    DJ BENETTI
Faction is proud to welcome as special guest on Friday April 10th, Bank Holiday Weekend – The capo dei capi of Italo Disco - DJ Benetti.

Having made his DJ debut at a Mafia-controlled pizza restaurant in 1980, Benetti is now renowned as one of the unsung pioneers of the Italo sound. Most recently dropping his disco diamonds at the Bloc Weekender he has played at Cocadisco a record 6 times in addition to his residency at italoBLACK in Edinburgh and the monthly Disco Caligula parties. Delivering magical musical odysseys that have enchanted both Italo initiates and hardcore cognoscenti every time.

    CHRIS LOW
Chris Low took to the turntables during the halcyon days of Acid House. His CV includes the legendary Edinburgh clubs Soma, Sex Beat, Skidoo and XS, DJing at Kraftwerk and Nitzer Ebb after-shows and most recently a triumphant six hour set at his Throbbing Disco night in Tokyo. Chris has played on US radio station 91.5 WPRK alongside DJ Pierre, DJ Sneak and Felix Da Housecat amongst others; can boast vinyl releases on Pro-Jex, Victoria Music, SW20 Records and can always be relied on to get the dance floor jumping with an genre-defying blend of house, electro, italo, and nu-beat classics. Always with a few surprises thrown into the mix.

    JASON FACTION
Following the successful Faction trip to New York, where Jason Faction played a number of slots across Brooklyn and Manhattan culminating in an illustrious Faction party in Williamsburg. Faction resident Jason will be tearing up the dance floor with a secession of cuts from the full sound spectrum of Faction nights, from the start of the club till the present.

No, it's a link to IF's mix page on RobotDJ.net - just click on the Mixed Up In The Hagues ones, though there's loads of other's on that page. There's squillions of other mixes on the whole site.

to be fair, it isn't a purely 'italo' mix, but from the track listing it it does seem to be in the same ball-park, just as if you were to hear a frankie knuckles or ron hardy mix not all the tracks would necessarily be 'house' tracks, but a good mix/set should be about a vibe rather than dogmatically sticking to a genre (NB: must add, i havent heard the above mix myself though)

  13. Orang Utan

for pure italo, check out the Flemming Dallum mixes on the site, though it seems to be down at the moment.
But tunes like Take A Chance, Voice Of Q, Robot Is Systematic, Penguin Invasion, I Sing The Funk Electic and Cybernetic Love are proper italo and on the above mixes.

Kid Frost and the Jonzun Crew were never, ever, ever, ever Italo. They are part of what is known as Electro-Funk - a branch of Hip Hop. Great records but let us respect the original context. You should know that O - being a fan of Cybotron's 'Techno City'.

I nevr said they were - IF is the best known DJ to play Italo, so I picked those two mixes of his as they have done a lot to 'revive' Italo in the last few years. I didn't claim that all the tunes on the mixes were Italo. IF plays other stuff too.

Just picked this up on double vinyl. Old favourite from 90, 91. Been looking for it (half heartedly) for decades - it's not rare or especially desirable, I just couldn't remember what it was called.

There's a new(ish) documentary about Italo Disco, Italo Disco Legacy. I haven't seen it but it's got good reviews: interviews with key people, crate diggers who are keeping the scene going and loads of footage of the acts from the time.

I have got the soundtrack though, which is great. While the film includes all the classics, the soundtrack album focuses on unreleased tracks, lesser known ones and modern tracks by producers like The Hacker and Marc Almond in the italo style.
