Italian Riot Police @ Roma

I don't think it is fair to call being attacked by italian fans and police 'causing trouble', but then fans are rarely treated fairly.

For the 2nd successive away game in Europe Man Utd fans have caused trouble and needed the police to get involved. I guess they will get another small fine from Uefa.

go fuck a leek cuntface!

You might know what Liverpool fans had to go through in 1984 v Roma, in the same stadium and again in 1985.

And understand 1985 a little bit better.
Indeed, by many accounts the events in Rome directly caused the events in Belgium.

Any english team's fans would have got the same treatment. And read editor's thing about what happened when Wales played.

To coin a phrase.... I was there. The San Siro was not a fun place to be that night as we got bombarded with missiles all through the game. We had police rather than Caribineri by us so there were no attacks like last night's. Mind you, we didn't charge at them either.

The references to the 84 and 2001 Liverpool games are very pertinent and akin to what happened last night. As was Boro's game there last year. It's not new but let's all make a big fuss because it's United shall we?

There were no confrontations between police and Liverpool/Boro fans as I recall.

Or attacks on penguins........

Everything we've seen today is so disgraceful. Its appalling footage of fans being beaten. The number of stabbings - it takes it way beyond sport.

The reaction of the Italian FA worries me- they are backing the Italian police "until they see proof to the contrary."

English football policing seems light years away from Europe's? Segregation before, during and after matches, tight stewarding and CCTV all over the place. Where was the planning for this game?

But Im also aware that English fans have been coming home from tournaments abroad, battered and bruised claiming police brutality and feigning innocence for decades now.

UEFA sitting on its hands and paying lip service to anti-racism initiatives on the continent is one thing, but why the fuck is this violent shit tolerated? This and many other fansites will bitch and moan and the Battle of Rome will pass into Man U Club mythology until the next time.

Why wont it die out? Because fundamentally UEFA and most FAs dont care?

*when the revolution comes....* :)

as an outsider to the football malarky and not really giving a shit which team of overpaid actors places the round thing in the net thing attached to the rectangular thing I want to say that the whole thing is fucked up.

had that happened outside of a fottball match it would be called a riot. From what I saw on the TV the united fans reacted to a provocation by the roma fans and then the bizzies kicked fuck out of the united fans...

ok so the united fans shouldnt ahve reacted but still a bit of an ott reaction by the italian bizzies to , imo, the wrong supporters

But this happens every year. In Turkey, in Italy...
There is crowd trouble / vile abuse of black players in Holland, Croatia, Serbia, former sattelite Soviet states- stabbings before and after games. Why? Why is it tolerated?

IME (could very well be wrong though as I dont watch much european sport) this only seems to happen on this scale in football.

so either its something fundamentaly wrong in the way the sport is managed\policed\etc or its a representation of an underlying issue in those societies thats manifesting itself in the sport (fuck I sound like a spotty sociology twat)

I follow rugby union and even in "grudge" matches you dont see anything even remotely approaching the stuff that is shown at football matches.

Probably for the same reasons it was over here, and it will probably require the same solutions.

ive been literally unbalanced by what happened at rome and last night at sevilla. im fucking livid. feel like torching every italian business in london , tonight.

I was batten charged by spanish riot police outside the ground when England played Madrid away. Resulted in a nasty broken finger. All we where doing was singing and drinking outside the pub nearest the ground. The police appeared from around the corner formed up in a line and surged us battering us with their batons. Their was a brief call of "stand" "stand" when we regrouped but the police where really really heavy handed and up for it and it didnt come to much.

my current hero is the dark haired big yid geezer who swung an almighty right hander into the face of one of those riot police cunts and was then seen swinging into the police until he disappeared under a hail of police helmets and raised batons. Got to say respect to you man. saw it on utube.

those riot police on the continenet are evil aggressive bastards, no doubt at all in my mind that both incidents Man utd and spurs where because of heavy handed police.

someone posted on this thread, " I fucking hate Man Utd ".

I hope your not implying with that , that it would be alright and OK to see Man Utd supporters blood shed on the terraces.??? If it is your a wanker.

I for one have not seen this as a Spurs or Man Utd thing at all, its an Italian and Spanish hatred for the English thing.

The Italians really really hate us. The ultras are out of control, the riot police in both countries should bring the minister for home affairs down in their respective countries. Disgraceful. The Italian official responses have been one of denial. We need to be protected out there.

Spurs are getting a case together against the spanish police, man utd too. I hope this comes to something, the police should lose their jobs and even face court appearances. they where caught on CCTV, their should be an internal enquiry and heads should fall, but ofcourse nothing will happen until fans die.

At Ninian Park we have a gap between away fans and home fans and the police sit in there to seperate fans.

In that footage the police were in with the away fans.

They weren't there to stop trouble but the beat the shit out of anyone if an excuse presented itself. Thats not policing its holliganism in a uniform. UEFA should ban italy from Europe until it learns proper crowd control.

??

So every Italian is responsible for the actions of the Police in Rome on Tuesday?

I read that the police beat a fan in a wheelchair.....does anyone know anything about this? There's so much hyperbole on both sides I have no idea whether to believe it.

fuck em, yeh I hate em, if that makes me a wanker so be it.

yes mrs magpie the police battoned a disabled supporter in a wheelchair at the spurs game in sevilla.

The thing i can't get over is this. The way the cops behaved makes me think that they are ultras when out of uniform.

If you read the context, you'll see that I was talking about appreciating Rooney's goal - despite not being a big fan of the team.

I'm a fan of the team now, thanks to those lovely three points we were given by them yesterday ;)

So you think mu should be taking some responsibility for the trouble?

Of course, all clubs should. If any fans causing trouble can be identified they should be charged/banned.

This does not justify the Italian Police who went completely OTT.

As I said above, there is a bunch of Police going OTT and then there is the response of a poorly equipped, probably poorly (if their lack of equipment is anything to go by) trained group of people who have been told (and, for that matter, who have ample evidence to prove) that English fans are notorious hooligans, put into a situation where such scenes are likely to happen - they have very little defence against missiles other than to try and stop them at the source.

Throwing a few missiles against Police over here rarely results in these kind of scenes because our Police are better equipped to protect themselves, better trained (thanks of course to very many experiences when they got it wrong) and nearly every stadium has more than enough CCTV to identify the offender at a subsequent stage without the need to pile into the crowd (plus, of course, its not as if the culprit will be leaving the country usually). The grounds are usually far better, as well as far better run too.

A bit of film at the match.I've had first hand experience of what cunts the fans and bizzies can be like at Roma.I also know what the angels are like.On the fanzines they were boasting about how many were in the crew going to the Roma game. How they were going to sort out the eyeties etc.

It's puzzling how when so many British fans have had so much shit abroad the big sympathy vote to a gang of gobshites who were always ready for trouble.Saying that I think it's certain that some of the people copped for and stabbed were just people who'd gone to support the team and have a laugh. It's funny to us how people made up with themselves to act hard and relish some hard man tag cry like big tarts when they're gettin it instead of givin it out.

If you look hard enough you'll be able to spot haloes and wings among the standard fat, baldy blokes and general mu parraffins.;)

And there you have it,the innocents cop for it every time, the hooligans? fuck me the dickheads are only happy when they outnumber each other.I've been in their company on match days, and listened to some of these clowns and as you no doubt know, they are pathetic.
