Computers and networks were all originally designed so you could transfer pictures of kittens, but email wasn't.

Well the first image ever transferred via network was a playboy playmate, so if you tweak your sentence a bit your correct ;)

Email was never designed for transporting large binary files.
 
No limits on our Microsoft Exchange server.

In fact, there are several users who have just kept copying their email up to the server whenever it's been replaced.

We've got one chap who's been with the company for twenty years - never looked at his mailbox or how long we used Exchange for before I started but I suspect it's pretty epic.

I've kind of bimbled into internal technical support (previously I just did the customer side - now both) so please excuse the silly question, but how much of a performance hit does this sort of thing really cause?
