Israel v Russia ?

Its not about who deserves to qualify or doesn't,its about finishing in the top 2 of your group, every team knows that before the qualifiers start.

Jammy, jammy England.

((((Scotland who really deserved to go through))))

I have to agree.

Mclaren is crap, as are the other English managers in the premiership. There really are no good English managers... I still lurv Erikson, and my really wild cards for the next England managers post are Andy Gray and Alan Hansen, at least let the boys who know about football have a punt:eek: :D

Why don't England deserve to qualify??

Because it should stop now.

If we qualify, it'll continue in this same tedious vein.
We'll get newpapers, radio and TVs telling us to support them endlessly.
On the streets of England - French, Italian & German cars marques will ride round the streets & adorning the St Georges flag.
Injured footballers will appear on cereal boxes

We'll then moan about losing to penalties to german/portuguese/italian/any other nation, or to a dodgy decision by a ref'. Bloody foreigners. And the cycle will start again.

This is all fine if we can put together a decent side. Or at least one who at least appears bothered by it all.

But I don't want another June where I'm watching football through my fingers.
I'd rather it ended here.

Oh England, always drawn in weak groups, always so jammy.

Glad you guys got through but does the lasy minute goal mean thant Steve Mc is now good enough to stay in the job? I don't get it. I mean if the Israeli had missed, would Steve have been sacked:confused: Man is a loser and should go now if Engerland are to have any chance of getting knocked out in the Quarter finals on penalties as is customary.

What?
'Weaker' nations like the world cup winners, Italy?

I think he means Ukraine (only 4th at last world cup) Not like the mighty Macedonia or Andorra (55mins goalless) eh?

England aren't through yet . There is still the big hurdle of beating croatia and Russia not getting a win in Andorra .

we only need a draw against Croatia

I never understand this idea of teams 'deserving' this or that. You play games of football, the best two teams on results go through. The groups are decided by previous performance which is why Scotland will now get an 'easier' group next time - because they're not crap any more.

Yeah so England haven't been brilliant - but on the strength of comfortable home wins and a few dodgy away results we now have a good chance of going through. Sorry everyone, this is how it works. It's not decided by a panel of judges in the stands.

no, he meant Georgia, the team Scotland crumbled against when if they'd won they would have been nailed on to qualify.

The Russians don't travel well do they?Losing to an ordinary Israeli team with fuck all to play for? anyway roll on the hype
National pride ? Russia is a sympathetic ally to Iran and Syria - see a motivation there ?

It wouldn't make much difference to European footballers but these citizens of a beleaguered middle east state will be National heroes for this 'poke in the eye with a big stick'. The boys from the politics forum needn't come on spouting that their siege position is all Israel's fault 'cos I agree with you on that. I was trying to explain why IMO it wasn't a nothing match from an Israeli perspective.

Also aren't I correct in thinking that Israel haven't lost a competitive home game in something like 8 years. If that's right they'd also have pride in that record to play for.

I never saw this as an easy Russian win - I expected a draw.

has it occurred to anyone that Israel wanted to win because they enjoy being a team that's becoming quite hard to beat at home and that? No politics etc necessary?

Thanks you JTG for telling everyone how it isin regards to whether England deserve it or not. Personally i think Steve should resign after the croatia match whatever the result, because then he wont be leaving on too bad a note and wont have to take the blame for us doing shit in the european championships, if we get there.

has it occurred to some people that the reason we're drawn in weaker groups is because of our previous decent performances which secure us a good seeding? scotland were in a tough group because they've been shit for the last god knows how many years. fair play to them for getting so close this time, but thats what happens. you get the results against the other teams and you go through. england might, scotland didn't, no luck about it.

i think that certain posters would rather believe that they weren't being paid enough by the Russians
