A lot of lessons go into the Pentagon what happens to them there is a mystery. One of the lessons post desert strom was that policing from helicopters is far from ideal - especially when you let Saddam Hussain do it . But the forces made available to commanders on the ground in Iraq have been limited at best despite their protestations. Another lesson that I certainly hope went in was that the US doesn't nessecarily have a clearer picture of Middle Eastern WMD devlopment than the rest of the International community.
The US has taken casualties in Iraq, recruitment is down and reservists having met their obligations are not duty bound to reenlist, so if you think Iraq would be duplicatable in Iran I think you are sorely mistaken. Do you take Jalal Talabani's permission as a given, and that there will no ramifications for the peacekeeping detail that would have to remain in Iraq?

I'd disagree with you their Bernie. The comparison with Henry K sets the bar way low but I do think we've got the biggest crop of boy scouts since JFK's Camelot nearly got us all killed over Cuba and stoked the fires in Vietnam.

It's going to be the Johnson/Nixon that comes after this other guilded Yankee fool Dubya that will have to tidy up the mess. He will make Kissinger look like a model of restraint.
