Do all the theatres use -re themselves? Maybe it's a deliberate misspelling for effect - looks more cultured to the US eye? Maybe it's to distinguish themselves from movie theaters...
I used to use "ise" whenever I posted here and, of course, when I was journaliSing for various publications based in South Africa and the UK I "ised" it; but for the boards, I've just said screw it.
I'm out of the closet as a yank on here anyway, so why bother adjusting the spelling and the lexicon unless clarity requires such adjustments?
