Is uncle Fidel dead?

ETA: what a shame - this could have been quite an interesting discussion
you are right just look at what people have written, not much to do with the OP is there am I responsible for what others post? or am I guilty for answering posts?

90,000 Cubans have died trying to escape the land of milk and honey, i.e. the paradise that is Cuba.

It's everything to do with being trapped in a 1950's dictatorship whilst the rest of the world grew up and left communism behind... Castro's influence on Cuba, in my opinion, is far from one of nurture, more a stranglehold preventing the island's natural growth.

Sure, shafted by American trade embargos and deserted by collapsed Russian arrangements - the poverty of Cuba is not all his fault - but the stubborn old bastard hasn't helped much has he?

Interesting points you make there, do you think from my posts that I am some kind of fan of Fidel?

I think the Cuban people have done an amazing job in what they have managed to achieved in the circumstances they have had to endure over the last 50 years, there education and healthcare is 2nd to none from what I have seen and I’ve used the health services from Europe to Asia to South-America.

He is seen by millions of peoples as hero because of his actions in the region, just like Churchill is seem by millions of European because of his fight against Fascism, but just as Churchill made many mistakes Castro has done the same.

Just to make it clear the land of milk and honey I’m referring to in my posts is the UK and not Cuba

Where did you get that widly inaccurate figure? It is perfectly true that Castro is a hero to most Latin Americans, even those who do not espouse Leftism. From what I saw in Cuba, he is also more popular with his own people than any other leader whose country I have visited--far more popular than Bush or Blair for example. The post-Castro administration has been in place for many years, and it is headed by Ricardo Alarcon rather than Raul Castro.

what an arrogant prick

It is very easy for residents of the UK to criticize Castro--they do not live in a country that suffers under the permanent threat of once again being relegated to the third world by US imperialism.

yes but you've been there so can comment from a position of knowledge and not ignorance.

You can’t expect people who have been educated in an imperialist country and read news about the world from an imperialist stance to understand, you have educated yourself by going to look for yourself, I’ve yet to meet a European that has been to Cuba and said it was like they thought, all the ones I’ve met have been very impressed, some shocked but they tend to be the ones that haven’t seen life in the developing world before.

But PK is the kind of person who keeps on about how much money he earns and what materialist stuff he has, :D

Now that’s what I’d type if I wanted an argument :) but I’m off now:p

Exactly. Working-class Cubans know very well that without Fidel they would be living as people do in places like Jamaica, Haiti or the Dominican Republic--and they know that is what will happen if the revolution is rolled back. I don't think Western Europeans can understand what it is like to live under that kind of threat.

To be fair I don't think U75 or indeed any message board/forum is particularly reflective of public opinion in the UK.

Its quite obvious that the majority of socialists in the UK, stretching from the the labour left to the Communist Party, are well disposed to Cuba and sypathetic or supportive towards the revolution. Any union of any significance is affiliated to the Cuba Solidarity Campiagn.

That's right, run away Epicurus!!

Other wise you might have to find one single post where I have commented on "how much money I earn and what materialist stuff I have".

Fucking holier than though leftist cunts, you make me laugh. Thank-you!

:D

Plenty of people have opinions of Israel without having been there - you think Cuba is some kind of sacred cow just because your sorry arse was born there?

By that logic what the fuck are you doing on a Brixton forum?

Twat!!!

how much time have you spent in South America I think I have some understanding of how Fidel is seen there as I was born there and have spent 35 out of my 48 years living there.

Oh, so you weren't born in Cuba then?

You were giving the false impression you were then, yes?

And I'm still waiting for some kind of evidence to support your bullshit statement:

"PK is the kind of person who keeps on about how much money he earns and what materialist stuff he has"

But I don't expect it anytime soon. Run along now, Epicarcass...

:)

People around here just like Fidel because of his anti American credentials. He represents a system that failed in China, the Soviet Union, all of Eastern Europe, North Korea and his home team of Cuba.

And now he has his brother running the show.

Just dying like your typical third-world despot.

And indeed dying like the falsely inflated American economy too, eh Mears?

I personally think Castro is a deluded old man, but he's still a million times more intelligent, more compassionate, and indeed more of a man than your draft-dodging corrupt president ever was and ever will be.

And he outsmarted American-sponsored attempts on his life, what, 635 times??

One man, against your entire "intelligence" community - and you failed.

A bit like Bin Laden really isn't it Mears? You lose, you suck.

:)

Oh and whilst you're here - I don't believe I've had the pleasure of congratulating you on the Republican party's huge loss of power.

Nixon, Reagan, now Bush.

:D :D :D

Well done Mears - looks like you backed the wrong horse - again.

It would be really scary if you were over 18, hopefully its just youth

Awww, Mears... that the best you can do these days?

:D

I should be disappointed, but it's all so predictable with you isn't it?

I'm Brazilian as I've said on this board for years, I have no idea where you got the impression I was Cuban I think I've only ever mentioned Cuba once in all the time I've posted here.

You seem to have become a caricature of yourself, you need to understand people are laughing at your “outrage” it really is very funny :D

Cuba also CURRENTLY has a better education and health service than half of europe.

Tbh, I'd say better than most of europe.

True but a moot point, like having a car with tremendous performance and plenty of petrol but no roads on which to drive.

I only got the impression you were a prick, and must have missed the bit where you revealed your nationality to the world.

So is that your way of saying "no pk, I can't find a single post to support my earlier statement that you are the kind of person who keeps on about how much money you earn and what materialist stuff you have".

Maybe it's lost in translation... when I was dating a Brazilian girl I had the same problem.

I got bored of her very quickly too, funnily enough.
