Talking of free alternatives found overseas, I love the 'Village Voice' in New York. A weekly paper that can be picked up all over town for free. Loads of content (and a fair bit of advertising too but not too bad) and alongside listings there is pretty left leaning tenacious editorial.
If it went in that direction it'd be great.
Yes I've always been impressed with Village Voice when I've been in New York - its mixture of poliutics and culture is always a good read. I agree if we could have a London Village-Voice type publication that would be good.
I fear though that Time Out if it went free would have to target the young market and so would cut out many of the 'heavier' more thoughtful pieces and might turn out like TNT www.tntmagazine.com/emag/
