Is this World Cup the least hyped-up on the street?

'England fans who are convinced England are definitely going to win' are on the lengthy list of people I hear about on the internet but have never actually met.

From a personal outsiders perspective it did look like there was often a ludicrous amount of hype around the England team from 1990 onwards, and that did lead to overy high estimations of how good they were and how well they'd do, and that includes among 'real fans' I know.

I never knew this :hmm:
John Barnes won the right to perform the rap ahead of Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne and Chris Waddle

Had Peter Beardsley 'won the right' to do the rapping I fear a nation would have screamed out in horror as one voice.

Hype definitely. That has tended to be ridiculous, no questions there.

Overestimation of how good they are? I suppose that depends on your alternative view of how good they really are. I've certainly never met all these people who think England are one of the favourites though.

I have met fucking tons :D

Not now but certainly second half of the nineties, first half of the noughties

I only ever watch football when its an excuse for cheap and ultimately futile jingoism.

but among proper fans of the game, even the hard headed realists get their hopes up.

A bit more hype than now, but then on many of those occasions it was a bit more reasonable to suggest that England were genuine candidates to reach the final stages. But I don't think we've seen that kind of hype since 2006.

If they did I demand to see the routines that Beardsley, Gascoigne and Waddle performed

I wonder if I could get this? These are England players so the public pretty much own them. It is like our rights are being trampled on if we do not get to see these raps

Just not in your world where The Sun is apparently representative of most England fans.
Those words were only spoken in that same makey-up world you appear to be living in today.

It's like you're incapable of reading the words other posters are adding to the conversation. You know, like the the words all discussing the hype that England have had for previous competitions.

maybe people have realised that the whole flag thing looks shit,

I was talking to a couple of blokes I know on Sunday who normally are full on flag of st George types but who said in passing that the way they feel the country is going that they are not as patriotic as they were when it comes to football. Not entirely sure whether it's welfare reform or UKIP pessimism that underpins the way they feel.

I'm disputing the hype. It's a cliche pushed by ABEs like yourself to back up their absurd idea that England fans are more delusional or arrogant than anyone else.

Aggregated Business Entity?

Is this about the hairdressers in Spain?

Yes :D I saw him talking about it on some bullshit BBC3 world cup programme the other week :D Can you imagine Beardsley or Gazza rapping :D:D

So there might be some footage?

And then came World In Motion. New Order, fresh from the success of the Ibiza-infused Technique, teamed up with Keith Allen, Dad of Lily, to record the track. Also roped in were Barnes and various team-mates including Paul Gascoigne and Peter Beardsley, both of whom, legend has it, recorded versions of the rap that never made it onto the final track. Throw in some Kenneth Wolstenholme samples, and the end result was something quite special.

I've no idea why you keep on posting up such weird made-up nonsense, but I'd be grateful if you shut the fuck up now. Thanks.

Which bit are you disputing? That you're an ABE? or that you think England fans are delusional and arrogant?

Moar World in Motion info :)

The song was written and performed by New Order who wanted to call it E for England, but the English FA vetoed this idea because they thought it was an Ecstasy reference. It is New Order’s only number one UK hit.
