Is this the best WC so far in a generation?

I actually though Mexico vs Germany was a strong one, simply because watching it you could see Mexico executing their plan with passion and determination, all the while thinking "they're not actually going to pull this off, are they?". From before we realised just what a giant-culling this tournament would see.

Spain vs Portugal was bloody great, mind.

What you lot seem to have forgotten, and is the major blot on this WC, is that Russia bribed for it in the first place and we wuz robbed. This is the WC that should have been in England!!

This is why I hope Spain totally thrash Russia. Totally corrupt.

Spain did ensure that Cliff Richard didnt win Eurovision by corruption you know.

otzenpunk : Did you really write this during the second half of of the Germany vs S.Korea game?

Sure I did. And it was a pretty dull match til the 90th minute. Not the only one. There were a couple of good matches, like URUrus, ARGcro, POLcol or now BELjap, and a few at least entertaining shootouts like RUSksa, BRLtun, ENGpan. Others may have been enjoyable as well, which I didn't see, like FRAarg and URUpor on Saturday, but in summary that just makes up for round about a dozen matches out of 54 so far. I've simply got the feeling I've watched way too much pretty shitty football during the past weeks, all with the same script. Underdog parks bus, uninspired favourite team unable to take them apart, at one point, there's a successful set piece or a penalty, and either team wins 1-0 or it ends up in a tie with optional penalty shooting. For example I can't understand in any way, why people would celebrate the 1:1 of Iran vs. Portugal. Portugal just played very bad and Iran is a crappy team which drove their unsportsmanlike conduct over the edge, as if they had 11 Neymars on the pitch, and in the end it paid off and the incompetent ref felt obligated to give them a laughable penalty.

Of course, it's kinda funny to see big teams thrown out by underdogs, from a result perspective.

The 2 high points for me so far have been the last 2 mins of the simultaneous group B & group F games - Spain vs Morocco and Portugal vs Iran games, and Germany vs S.Korea and Mexico vs Sweden. Real tension.
Honorable mentions for Serbia vs Switzerland, Nigeria vs Argentina, Japan vs Senegal...

:D I just did lol.
Admittedly I watched the Spain Morocco game but the results coming through was immense at the time - as a neutral. Same as the Dull Germany Korea game. As a neutral it was still a tense and gripping game.
I wouldn't want to watch lopsided games like Brazil 1-7 Germany or S.Arabia 0-8 Germany all the time, even if they are made entirely of goals scored from open play.

What was the best bog you’ve seen in the last 20 years then?
I saw one once - I forget where - thay had an inbuilt water jet to clean you up. That was pretty awesome.

And some public bogs in Holland that looked like they had clear glass cubicles but the glass went opaque when you locked the door.

I enjoyed the 2010 World Cup, but can't remember too much of the football, I just remember getting into it beforehand, reading about the stadiums and the jubilani ball that changed dorection in the air and that.

2014 was better for football, with Van Persie's swan dive and spain and Brazil getting thrashed.

2006 I largely ignored as I was chasing women at the time, 2002 ditto.

1990 was still memorable for me, Gazza's tears and those Umbro shellsuits or knockoff that everyone seemed to have.

But this World Cup has been cracking for football and will hopefully continue to be so.
