No, I think you'll find that pointy tents with flowers on and converted vans mean 'hippy'. I looked it up.

Next time I see one of these, I'm taking notes on how they're put together.

ground sheet with 16 pegs - slightly wider spaced for door section.
10ft central metal pole (i've seen bamboo used so you can drill it and hang stuff)
top sheet of cotton similarly 16 ridges running from centre strengthened section, with perhaps a 5" overhang.
Side walls hang directly from the the inside of the top sheet (as I say, about 5" back from end of roof), and turn into rubber at the floor.
So you peg out the groundsheet, lay out the tent, climb inside and erect the central folding pole (no pegs needed at this point - tent weight holds it up).
a folding a-frame at the door to give it extra shape and ,prevent water flowing in, which you literally wedge in place - no pegs or anything, again - internal tensions does it all.
peg bottom of walls next to corresponding groundsheet peg, then peg out the overhang with guy ropes.
you then simply tuck the rubber strips at the foot of the walls under the groundsheet which means you can roll the walls up if the weather's good. this bit sounds a bit shonky and I reckon they should cut slits in the rubber so the rubber fits round the pegs, but it does actually work fine.

literally takes 10 minutes for one person to erect.

some versions have groundsheet fitted but you lose the abililty to fold the sides up.

1.8 meters at the very top of a dome only barely counts. - unless you're really short :p

Ultimately one's choice is limited by weather conditions ..

Mine was more spacious than some flats - until the storm...

Yes, I want your tent and your van please :o:D

It's 4 and a half metres long :D

That can't be right, or maybe 4 and a half metres isn't that big.

You can fit a double airbed in it with about a foot to spare, and the porch is just big enough to put a couple of camp chairs in it.

My Khyam is 3 metres wide by 5 long - in theory it's a 4 man tent, but it's just perfect for one large person and a whole load of stuff. :D

That looks a good 'un. I'm a bit fed up with having to stoop and scramble into my tent after a night on the widgets, so maybe I'll see what price it can be picked up for online.
This is the one I have. It's got two bedrooms but if you don't put the other bedroom in it's ideal for a table and chairs for when it pisses down. I just can't justify the space it takes up when they're trying to squeeze 400 people into a field the same size as my garden.

It was £42 in-store

The tent has a large bedroom compartment, full height living area complete with rising groundsheet which means a reasonable amount of space for not only you but your camping gear and camping accessories.

The Gelert Ottowa 4 also has a large front entrance as well as 2 side entrances to allow for maximum ventilation and light on those lovely sunny days

This one looks good for a ton and a little more compact: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Gelert-Ottawa-4/657

I was fooled by the graphic showing six people wedged into a smaller overall space. I prefer the layout of the Ottowa too.
That graphic is a total lie! 270cm / 6 = 45 cm each. I'm not that broad-shouldered and I'm wider than that!

That does look quite nice. The drawing says it's 1.30m. I wish they'd show pictures of people standing next to them.

I saw that just now. The thing that put me off was the reviews saying the groundsheet doesn't attach to the tent and that because it's single skin there's considerable condensation :hmm: It's for when I'm oxfam stewarding so it's a balance between not taking up the whole field with my house-sized tent and being comfortable enough to be able to work.
Do they not provide any facilities for you to work in?
