Isn't the usual excuse that the old testament (or at least the mostly Judaic sources it is drawn from) are "G-d's word" mediated through an author, and therefore open to error?
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a more Liberal / Reform point of view? I tend to believe that the Law was part of a progressive revelation guided by The Eternal rather than a one off.
I thought that more stricter Orthodox interpretations regard the whole Torah as given in totality by The Eternal at Sinai?
