Is there a 'normal' Butchers in Brixton?

Meat doesn't change because one holy man or another has said some words over it. It hasn't become something else-- it's still the same meat.

Jeez...

To you perhaps... to someone with an active belief system that it conflicts with, it's not.

I have an active belief system. It says meat is meat. The stuff doesn't transmogrify because someone's said words over it.

How do you feel about Catholic priests blessing Gulf Coast shrimp boats? Does that mean Protestants will anger their God by eating the catch?

And when did Jews, Muslims and Christians stop praying to the same God anyway?

The God of Islam - Allah - is not the same God of the Christian faith or Judaism.

It might be commonly thought that 'all roads lead to god so follow whichever one makes you happy' but the reality is very, very different.

But this thread isn't the place for this discussion ... I believe there's a 'religion and philosophy' forum somewhere here, where people more educated than I will be able to discuss the issue.

So when you're in a restaurant do you go into the kitchen and quiz the chef about the meat?

No, because I don't need to. Most places that are halal advertise it clearly, and thus I can make an informed decision to eat there or somewhere else.

It's not that I *won't* eat anything halal, it's just if I can eat non-halal, then that is my preference, as it is also my right.

Why is a simple choice of mine such a big issue?

You haven't studied theology have you ajdown? I haven't but I did R.E. at school. Would it surprise you to know that even the angels in Islam and Christianity eg Gabriel are the same?

Clearly you haven't, because Islam started around 600 years after Christianity.

Both religions are not the same. Period.

You have no idea what you are talking about, fella.
The Abramic god is Allah/God/Jehova - the same non existent bearded bloke in the sky

I don't have a problem with muslims, I'm just a bit concerned about eating meat that has been dedicated to another god in the process of killing.

Most meat would, presumably, have a halal label on it if it had been killed that way?

But you're right, I wanted a nice piece of pork. Sainsburys obliged.
Oh get over yourself. It's the same God. Islamic dietary law is very similar to Jewish dietary law, as laid out in Leviticus, you know, that chapter of the Old Testament that you use to justify your prejudice against gay people. So similar in fact that Muslims can, and many often do, eat Kosher; Jews cannot eat Halal because of additional restrictions in the dietary laws.

If it bothers you that much, why not take a pragmatic leaf out of Islam's book and bless the meat in your own way before eating it? Any meat that is not forbidden but that was not slaughtered correctly can be made clean by a simple prayer.

Or you could go to Sainsbury's.

We are trying to educate you. You won't last long in this town if you don't wise up.

If your idea of 'education' is trying to persuade me that Islam and Christianity are the same, then you are welcome to keep it. I'm not interested, because it's wrong.

Ah a wriggle! That's not what you said first and you are misrepresenting me now. Clearly you have lost the argument by a piss-poor attempt at sophistry and you have failed abysmally!

There's no argument to win. It started off as a simple question, which has been hijacked. The question has been answered, so I went to Sainsburys.

how does islam starting after christianity proove that their god isn't the same?

If you really want to discuss this, find a local church running an Alpha course. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help you understand with far more patience than I have right now.

Indeed. Jesus is a prophet in Islam, as is (King) David.

you might want to try a little education yourself. i haven't seen this level of ignorance displayed in a long time

My partner is a black Muslim bisexual. Will they teach me to hate him. :(

isn't the point that if you have faith in your religion, you know you're right and they're just misguidedly indulging in the wrong superstitons?

would you care if the shelf stacker in sainsburys was belssing every packet of pork in the name of the flying spaghetti monster? presumably not, because your christian faith tells you that FSM's are irrelevant nonsense.

so why does someone observing another set of superstitons bother you? there can be no muslim god - your one is the only one - so it's just mumbo jumbo, no?

This thread has long since jumped the shark.

Nice trolling guys. Feel free to carry on talking but I won't be taking part.
