Is the DS kicking the PSP's arse?

It's a tough call - I don't think Sony's downfall will be the PSP though, not by a long way. Sony appeal to very different tastes to Nintendo (although they do, of course, overlap a lot) - Sony basically specialise in media centres and 'traditional' (for want of a better word) gaming. Nintendo cater for a completely different side of the market with much more innovation, but less simple pick up and play action. Look at the way Nintendo and sony have coexisted - you buy your PS or your nintendo console first (depending on preference), then - when prices drop, you buy the other one.

DS iirc had a more advantageous release date and has had better initial games released for it, but the PSP hans't exactly sold badly.

The contender in the console games market is MS and, imo, they've fucked up big time. The response to the 360 was underwhelming to say the least - sure they managed to push a christmas release last year, but all that seems to have done is mean that the system wasn't as polished as it could have been and the games are limited. Imo it's back to Nintendo vs Sony, but as I said I think that's something of a fallacy... They've proved that they can co-exist by catering to different sides of the market. If sony had gone for innovation and Nintendo had given Wii full-on multimedia stuff and a load of traditional style gaming then there would be some real contest but it seems that they've stuck to their respective corners for this round.

good post :) , thing is is peeps like us are into games and i think that if we had the money we have em all , apart from the DS and the xbitch 360 ive got all the mainstream current consoles and im sure il get them when the price comes down , as you said its not really a battle of whats best cos they are all different in thier own way..... its just which one you get first , the DS is in a better position at the moment because of the price

aaahhh, that's nice. we can all live together in peace and harmony! :)

Well in an ironic twist of fate I will now be able to venture a proper opinion on both consoles as I won a PSP at work today!! :D

Bought himself GTA: Liberty City Stories so we'll see how it goes!

Well I'm vastly underwhelmed by the PSP. The games are shit,, I've played Wipeout Pure, which I played on the Playstation years ago and I can't see any improvement in the PSP version, I've got GTA: LC and it's ok but when I look for any inspiring games to play on it all I can find are games that would be better played on a console or a PC.

Yes, it's portable but the games haven't got that un-put-downable feel to them that I got from the DS so I don't feel the need to play them on the move.

Imo there's no point in having it as an mp3 player because of its size.

I've watched a film on it that was compressed and it's just not my idea of entertainment watching the pixels swirl around the screen while the compression method decides which part of the film I need to watch the most and I'm not paying £20 for 3 films to watch on the PSP that I could buy on DVD, rip to MP4 and watch on the PSP.

I suppose I could use it to access the net but I'd only be doing that because it can rather than because I have any pressing need to access the net on the go.

It may or may not be more useful in a year or so but I'll get one then rather than have a useless piece of kit hanging round depreciating like mad until they bring out the PSP-Lite.

I was reading in this months Edge that the DS has wiped the floor, sales-wise, with the PSP, it's not hard to see why.

So I'm swapping it for a DS, that way my daughter gets to play hers more and we can play multiplayer games together.
