I think the terminator franchise cleared it & landed safely the moment they announced the 3rd film.

Hmm.

The more I think about it, the more I reckon it wouldn't have mattered which way around the 2nd and 3rd movie came out - fans would have praised the 2nd and derided the 3rd whichever.

I mean essentially they are the same film, it's just that T2 was first and very much a product of it's era, thus people remember it fondly.

I dunno, I think T2 has a lot more going for it than T3. It looks better, has better casting, better dialogue & is far more exciting. As far as I can tell the only things that make T3 worth watching are a pretty freaking sweet ending & the delicious Claire Danes. Arnie is laughable as an murderous cyborg from the future, he's just too damn old & not a good enough actor to pull it off.

terminator 1 is dire if you watch it again.

t2 is by far the best and t3 is much better then t1. I do hate myself for saying that:( but t1 is cheese.

I think calling T1 dire is a bit much. It is somewhat dated now but it's still a good film, much better than a lot of those big 80s actioners. But I'm with you on T2 being the bestest one.

It's amongst the few 'violent films' which my dad likes (he's a fluffy longhaired peacenik who hates anything violent) alongside Total recall and Die Hard.

It's a sequel, because it's set in an alternate timeline to Terminator 1. The Kyle Reese from Terminator 1 comes back from the year 2029, from a timeline in which Judgment Day happens in 1997. In Terminator 2, they avert that future. In Terminator 3, Skynet kicks off a new war, with Judgment Day happening in 2008 (or whenever the movie was set). Terminator 4 follows on from that, so even though there's a Kyle Reese in it, he's not the same Reese from Terminator 1.

Just another reason why this film will be shit.

Although the characters could have been lieing/reprogrammed under future John Connors instructions.
