is swine flu the new al qaida...?

Looking back to the past,
predictions of the end
Unseen ultra violet rays
Are beating on my head
Nuclear threat wanna bet will be our demise
The day will come when we'll look to apocalyptic skies

When the news had spread, that soon we'd all be dead
Well it just blew our minds
No one could have guessed that our worst fears at best
Figments of our time

So it seems that our dreams will never come to be
How could such a stupid thing destroy humanity?
A few weeks till extinction and there's nothing we can do
A message sent to other worlds will say, "It was just the flu"

There's no lesson to be learned
There's no one left to learn it

I have ranted about conspiracy theories plenty before as well, so I wont repeat all that again. But I will say that flu is an absolutely perfect topic for conspiracy theorists because however the always unpredictable flu turns out, they have a theory for every possible eventuality.

If the flu kills shitloads of people they can blame government or NWO or whatever for making this deadly disease.

If the flu is mild they can claim its all about controlling people or profit, and they can open up a conspiracy favorite, vaccinations, of which there are multiple different areas to get all foamy-mouthed about.

'always unpredictable'? Sounds like newspeak. flu has always as straightforward as a bag of chips during my lifetime.

As he spins in his grave.

I think all grave-spinning is off for George these days...

A starting point might be to note swine flu didn't bring down the twin towers and that, instead of being a reaction to imperialism, is a medical condition that will kill many thousands of people in this country this year. Not might, will.

In terms of swine 'flu being used to manipulate the agenda, it seems the potential risk of death is being used as a tool to better inform the public of how to access information and resources. How else should government act as the worst public health issue for decades looms ever larger - I think the public would like to know if you have better ideas?

I have issues with the presentation of TERRAH! in the UK but, unless someone can demonstrate otherwise, I don't think the two are being conflated to present a continuum.

Of far greater concern is the conflation between TERRAH! and corporate interests, as demonstrated by the ID card scheme and other IT/security based initiatives in relation to fraud prevention.

Thousands will die this year from swine flu in britain? Well, let's come back in five months and see how your prediction stands up. I doubt somehow this will come to bear. Maybe a hundred or two.

Worst public health issue for decades? Again, seems like alarmist nonsense to me. Almost as deadly as all that terrorism that was coming to kill all those american and british and australian lives. That's why i compared the two. It's all bullshit. People have always died of flu. Nothing new here except the media hype that seems to have snared so many, including yourself.

But you then seem to recognise the role that corporate interests play in all of this. It's all interconnected. Swine flu is simply another one of those tools they use to keep us all in a cloud of fear. So much easier to manipulate.

He doesn't half talk a load of cobblers, doesn't he?

:D

He's already started on the delusional approach of talking about shadowy others and what 'they' are using to keep us in supposed fear. What a giant pontificating ringpiece.

Fuck off twat. Go bother someone else.

I don't think you've figured out this bulletin board business. You post, others follow who may or may not agree with you.

In this case you're talking a lot of cobblers, imo of course. I'd wash that pottymouth if I were you, or 'they' may come and point and laugh extra hard at you.

I know I am. Hilarious.

You still here? And yes, you're right, you're just a follower. A stalker at times. Now, go somewhere else on this forum or site. And you're nothing about agreeing or disagreeing. You just sneer from the sidelines, painting people in your own negative shit. Just look at your first post here. Nothing at all to contribute about the thread's topic, just a sneer.

Oh calm down you hysterical numpty. I've made my contribution to this thread very clear: you're pontificating nonsense again, full of grandiose talk of what 'they' are upto and telling us how people (ie we who are not clever you) are reacting. Like your manipulation of dates about the terrorism warning it simply doesn't ring true.

The reality is far more prosaic. And far less worthy of some jumped up little knob-bag trying to draw patterns and conspiracies where none are needed. Fear isn't being 'racheted' up effectively at all - yep, people and the media love a good health scare, but I can personally guarantee that I don't see legions of facemask wearing frightened types catching the packed tubes every morning.

You're talking nonsense in sensational, stupid tones again. Anbd getting all precious when people disagree with you and daft assumptions.

He doesn't want to read anyone else disagreeing with him. He's got bigger tizzy fits to throw and unsourced cobblers to spout.

After all, we Brits can't be expected to know our own minds and what's going on over here. We need some hippyish ex-pat to export his wisdom to us from tourist land.

If all you did was disagree with me i'd have no problem. But as it is, you show tendencies towards stalking on this forum, have fuck all to say except character slurs, and bring out the 'racism' word.

Useless. Stop pretending you're here to disagree. You just sneer from the sidelines.

We brits. Racism. Hippy. Ex-pat. Tourist land. It's a big world tarranau, not just a small island.

Fela, your understanding of the word stalking is surpassed only by your hysterical need to generalise wildly and inaccurately. If you want to go away and check just how few times that I've followed you onto a thread in 18k+ contributions you're welcome, but frankly you're a fruitloop. I doubt, outside of this thread, even 2 out of my last 100 posts have been on a thread featuring you.

Why don't you deal with the assortment of posters on this thread who've pointed out that your supposed timescale in the OP was manipulated and incorrect? Instead you're still off in haughty cloud-cuckoo land with your fingers in your ears, telling us all what 'we' are supposedly experiencing.

Stupid thread premise is stupid.

fela, I'd suggest to come and visit the flu planning team at my PCT and find out just how 'scaremongery' it is for those working in the NHS who will actually be dealing with the problem en masse, before you open your mouth and start spouting bollocks like this.

AS is this:

I must admit, I did think of that book - The Shock Doctrine - which theorised that capitalism in it's current form seems to have a need to keep people in a state of perpetual panic ("disaster capitalism", the author calls it). The sources of the panic may be genuine, but the hyped panic is egged on.

Naomi Klein can shove her shock doctrine up her arse, quite frankly. She identified nothing new in it, and merely created a nice, media friendly label for one bit of capitalism that has been present for centuries as a tool of social control.
