Is Surgeon Unique?

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=unSrLgoWq8E

is this the fella?

a horrible noise (imo) - is this what techno is these days then? (i'm so clueless! :D ) he can be excused the jingle bells i suppose seeing as it was christmas...

that's 2006 - anyone got any more recent stuff?

not for the first time, i wish i *got* techno...

have i?

nah, that's ok i suppose. i think it's the drum beat in techno i may not like. it always sounds so *doof doof doof doof* with no variation, or breaks.

unless i'm wrong of course!

still not sure i know what techno is..

that looks very clever but i couldn't dance to it.

it just doesn't speak to me maaan. :D i sometimes (when i'm being particularly wanky) think bodies are atuned to different sounds. my body would not respond to that. and my head would hurt. it is already tbh :D :(

horses for courses though innit. techno obviously just isn't my sound. :)

and sleaterkinney - that does sound doof doof doof doof to me. one beat you see. i like the beat to change i suppose.

If it changed all the time, it'd be hard to listen to. Anyway, a full Surgeon set will have a variety of beats and tempos.

the answer is yes , but there's so many people pouring this stuff out it'd be hard for some else to have such a high profile, i rekon. ?

I was just thinking about the London tekno scene and all the great peeps who have stood up and said no-more 'Doof Doof Doof' . It's all tekno really.

Black Mass Plastics, Warlock, Jerome Hill, Edit, Bracket , Dask, Elkha.......loads more who i can't remember.

I dunno the last one there, but I'm sure they won't mind me saying that, whilst they play excellent records and are thoroughly nice chaps, Surgeon is leagues ahead of them in what he does. Jerome has the mad deck skills that Surgeon has though.

but i like dance music that changes tempo etc. i'll take your word for it OU and perhaps borrow some Surgeon to listen to properly :) live youtube clips aren't the best way of sussing a sound :D

my mate just rang up and i was chatting bout this and he said no wonder i don't get techno - it's the 'intelligent person's' dance music.

Am I being really thick. I suspect so. hungover as fuck. Cant see a download link on that site tho.

i saw a House of God clip Blag - is that where i went with you in Brum all those years ago?

i liked that place. :)

Go to Mixes DB and search for Surgeon. For recorded output, check out the Force & Form LP, plus anything he's recorded on Dynamic Tension, Counterbalance or Downwards. His Basic Tonal Vocabulary LP is also ace. As for individual tracks, early tracks such as Badger Bite and Magneze are techno floorfilling classics, but later stuff such as Whose Bad Hand Are These? are ace too - also check his stuff with Regis as British Murder Boys. Then there's his remixes....
But to get a good idea of what he's about, it's the mixes/DJ sets you want to listen to, such as the Glade one Jeff posted, Food For Thought (my favourite), Neck Face, For Dog Faces Only (can be found on spannered.org), his Sequence set and his Werk set - all can be found easily on tinteweb.

That's cos you have no ears

Bugger off :p

IMO it's music designed for a dancefloor, and in that regard it just dosen't do it for me, it dosen't flow or build. Just as soon as one bit gets going he cuts to something else or drops bleepy noisy shit on top.

It's the sort of stuff I could have on in the background, or whilst on a pill at home after a night out, nothing more.
