Is science a religion?

hi philosophers! nrt but i'm reading about the body atm. the key is not the body, but what leads us to an understanding of the body.

geddit.

how do you want to divide up the world jonti?

i get the impression that you really really want to do so.

whichever way, not finished book yet; but don't divide it up into transcendence and immanence. i'm guessing is my next lession. eta: objectivist swine.

If you mean the word religion as in Christianity etc then clearly the answer is NO. A religion is a set of people's beliefs concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities and how these 'gods' are involved in life the universe and the lives of humans.

This is what religion means. Science isn't anything to do with that.

If you mean religion in the flippant slang term (i.e. I religiously refer to my science texts when confronted with any question posed about human life and the creation of the universe) then maybe, but kind of NO because it's still not an actual religion.

oh, I think the distinction between bodies that can act and bodies that can only react is pretty crucial.

the key is not the body, but what leads us to an understanding of the body ... sounds nice, but what does it mean? I feel that mind and body are one so what leads us to an understanding of the body, particularly how it is a vehicle for action in the world, may well be key.
