Is Poker the new Football?

and on internet poker you get so many suckers playing J,2 suited or Q7o as if they were pocket aces and catching 2 pair on the river!
or idiots calling an all in with K,10 on an queen high board and catching a 9 and jack on the turn and river to make a str8!!

does my bloody head in!!

The reason it's a lottery is not that the hands are rigged, it's that you've got a higher proportion of idiots playing who will call all the way to the river with 7 2 offsuit. And unfortunately these buggers will occassionaly hit their pair on the turn or the river and make your AK suited look like shit.
AK suited doesn't have that great an edge over 72 off pre-flop.

One of the features of online play is that people think that AK is a sure fire winner and never lay the thing down.

Don't complain about people calling for all their chips to catch a runner runner - they are going to pay you out far more times than beat you.

I know which hand I'd rather be making a bet with!

It is annoying when someone hangs on with crap when the flop gives you a good shout and does them no favours and they end up making two pair by the river. Especially if you've been betting big!

But, like you say, in the long run they pay you far more often than you pay them, so it's best just to take it on the chin.

Again I’d say test two programmes side by side; I have been playing poker long enough to know what is usual and what isn’t and I just feel that some on-lines games produce more winning hands then others.

I play tournament poker so I also understand about trends and taking your time waiting for cards, but other people I know well who also play lots of poker have found the same, i.e. the odds of flopping an ace high flues is something like 104 to 1 and for you to get the ace in your pocket puts the odds up to about 140 to 1, I have seen this hand about 4 times over the last few months come up on a table I was playing at face to face, yet on-line I see it all to often, I follow what you say about the number of hands etc but I just can’t figure it out in my head, as I said before I played on-line for a long tome one day and had a number of 4 of a kinds (see above) I just don’t buy it, but hey it doesn’t really matter as I can’t prove it (I think someone will in the future on some sites) but I don’t play the sites that I think don’t play the real odds, its as easy as that.

I've had four aces come up and then make four queens on the very next hand in a live tournament before...

I will take your word for it - please tell me who to avoid!

And which sites would you recommend? I'm fixing my pc soon, purely so I can play poker, and would really appreciate a bit of advice.

I wouldn’t recommend any, that isn’t meant to be a cop out I am just playing real people now and when I have time I will look again at the sites, I have tried to see how secure they are and while they have lots of things in place to stop collusion, I have played in rooms with friends and chatted on AIM or IRC, we haven’t done this often enough for the site to know I guess as we haven’t been contact yet.

Sorry I've not been on yet. I would like to play but have some other stuff on the go at the moment that's eating up my time. Please keep me on the list and upate me with anything going on - I'll join in when I can...if that's ok, of course :)

My first live hand was A10s. The flop came down AAA.

A couple of hands later I went all in with AKs only to be called by AA and QQ. QQ spiked a third on the turn.

Poker throws up some crazy probabilities live or online. Last week at my home game everyone got JJ at some point in the game - some people twice. The first 20 flops didn't have a single face card.
