I think once noise gets to you, you can really obsess about it.

Very very true, and always a lesson bitterly learnt.

My neighbour has petitioned the council to enforce parking restrictions on our very quiet street. She has 3 parking spaces on her garden - we and several neighbours don't (up off the road), culminating in the council giving us all tickets outside our own homes, from a person who thinks there's a problem with parking, but has more than ample parking of her own. Grrr- is the phrase I'm looking for.

As to the OP, try to placate him somewhat, but also be clear that running downstairs at 8:30 am is not anti-social behaviour!
