Is mobile broadband the future?

I find that speed is very important when you work wirelessly. Say you've a big file to upload, say it's 100mb. On a slow speed it could take over an hour to upload - the longer it takes the more chance there is of the signal dropping or cutting out (as it can do over the course of an hour or so) and then you have to try all over again. Very frustrating! That would apply to a home user downloading tv programmes, too, I guess. The faster it is the less likely it is to happen. I like the portability too - mum only has dial up, but she is very close to a 3G mast, if I take this to hers I can have broadband.

Don't have much need to upload large files, but is there no software that will let you start again where it dropped, similar to on opera when you download a file and the connection drops. I used to use a separate piece of software before this feature was built into browsers.

If it's over 20mb,then I use yousendit. if it's to our website we use some ftp software (can't remember which). Same problem whatever.

The other irriating thing is if you use a datacard, you can download your email to outlook, but you cannot send email via outlook, it's to do with my email providers security. I called them and supposedly theres no way around it. I use zen for email, because they host our websites, but as an online account it's not exactly sophisticated - only a 1mb upload limit and nowhere to store addresses. Have recently got a gmail account because of this .

Anyway, thank feck I got this datacard when I did - the dvd I picked up on Monday has half the graphics missing off it. As little as a year ago I'd be forced to go to an internet cafe to download the graphics files, the old pcmcia datacard would not have coped. New technology rocks. When it works,of course. Hehe.
