Mozart had the kind of talent that seems to come along once every few generations. He wrote stuff down that he heard in his head in the form of musical notes and made some soaring and sublime stuff. That said, his stuff doesn't do a lot for me apart from a couple of the operas and the Requiem. He was a genius from quite a young age, I think it's one of those things you just have to take the world's word for.

Howlett on the other hand has written some nice tunes surrounded by banks of instruments, DAT machines and samplers. There are about 10,000 Liam Howletts who've made records. A genius could come out emerge from a roomful of samplers, no question, but he isn't it.

'dance music for people who dont like dance music' it fucking annoys me when people say that. i most certainly like dance music, i also like chemical brothers (some anyway) and the prodigy and i know many more people who are the same. that sentence is bollocks.

It takes too much from rock music IMO. Same goes for Fatboy Slim.

Music for the Jilted Generation was great. After that they were shit. Firestarter is dreadful. File alongside Chemical Brothers as dance music for people who don't really like dance music.

Nah mate, I'm the fire starter, twisted fire starter is seminal, imo. He pisses all over the Chems. I remember seeing the Prodge do their Glasto show in ~96/7 and they were fucking awesome.

Nowt wrong with that in itself, but I do agree with you that everything he's done since Jilted Generation has been somewhat of a dissapointment.

And comparing him to Mozart is just laughable :D

hendrix is about the only modern musican i would compare to mozart. and i'm pretty sure in 100 years time he will still be a legend.(providing music hasn't been banned in a 1984/v for vendetta type world is fucked scenario)

whats wrong with taking from rock music? or is that what you mean by dance music for people who dont like dance music?

I think his best work is on a par with the greatest stuff that ol' Ludwig Van and Freddy C made.

I can't really see any distinction between the traditionally considered genii, and the colossi that straddle the popi world

So yeah, why the fuck not?
