I would have liked to see

Labour under Gordon Brown

vs

Tories under Ken Clarke

Yeah, cos then the Tories would definitely lose - a Clarke leadership would rip the party to pieces. He might be a big hitter in the PP, but he's loathed by the Eurosceptics and hard right in the party.

I agree with Frankie Boyle, the only person who could get Labour re-elected at the moment is the meerkat from comparethemarket.com

Personally I think Gordon is not doing too badly.

He has an awful TV persona and could really do with help on it. He smiles insincerely and gulps air in a most odd manner. Margaret Thatcher changed her voice in order to come across better, I think Gordon Brown if he is serious about being and remaining prime minister should do some equally cutting self analysis.

He is serious, not a lightweight, commands some respect in the world and imho does not do too badly at PMQs.

Cameron by comparison is the ex PR old Etonian who has a baby face and I rate lower than Haigue. Cameron may not win it but Brown could lose it if he does not come across better.

People said the same things about Major. Face to face he is charming and has a great sense of humour, they said that about Major and they are saying it about Brown.

Personally think Brown has been a lot better than Blair. But unlike Blair he does not do well on the TV talking in soundbites.
Cameron comes across as a bit shallow and opportunistic but so did Blair.
Looks like the Tories will get a massive majority next election but you never know if they get asked difficult questions do they really have any answers?

There could possibly be quite a few independents and will cameron stand up to closer inspection. Were nearly into september and christmas is around the corner by then nu labour must be at the point of no return regards brown

if they aren't lying and the economy does really pick up around christmas and a lot of people are back at work and feeling rich again gordon might be able to start going 'see, i told you i was an economic genius' etc

i sort of half follow the uk news and cameron is making a lot of fuckups, it's like the tories are already spunking about the fact that they'll be back in power soon and i can see them torpedoing themselves by infighting between now and then. it seems like labour argue with each other a lot less than the tories at the moment. i don't think it's a foregone conclusion at all

and a lot of it comes down to which paper backs who in the actual run up to the election....

No..... Is Labour re-electable with anyone else at the helm? Probably not for a while. Wait and see how painful the (other) Tory Government is going to be.
