Is it wrong to eat meat?

Meat is so tasty. Tofu is rubbish unless it's deep fried. Don't do it. Fuck the dolphins and whales. Don't be a hippy.
It's entirely natural to eat meat, but ignoring the plight of your food source through over-hunting, over-fishing, genetic fiddling about, hormone dabbling and dreadful conditions would seem a tad short sighted.

Fucks sake, we can't even treat people properly around most of the world, why all the fussing about fish and chickens...

I'm sure quite arable farming can be as environmentally damaging as livestock farming and fishing
Actually arable farming is significantly more damaging unless it's organic. All those pesticides, fertilisers going into the soil plus veg use up the goodness in the soil more quickly.

You don't care about the health of the things you eat?

To be absolutely honest and relatively speaking, I don't really 'care', no. I don't think it's a great idea to keep animals in factory farms and cruelty is definitely a 'bad thing'. I try and avoid buying intensively reared meat, but that's more to do with taste - I won't buy battery chickens cos they're pretty rank). On a scale of 1 to 10 of things that I really care about though animal welfare is a 1 and eating meat is a 3, so eating meat wins.
I have other things I worry about more, rightly or wrongly.

Yes. Yes it is.

the ions on he savannah don't have a choice, you/we do.
HTH

I'm not sure that I understand or agree with this.

Are you suggesting that Lions eating gazelles would be wrong if they had access to non-meat alternatives?

oh, and i believe the time will come where future peoples will look back in horror at how humans treated animals.
"and they ate them?!?!, sick"

I think these things are easy to talk about. Pro-life activists think the same thing about the unborn and in my opinion, for largely the same reasons.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It could happen. A few millenia ago a lot us would have struggled to accept people from outside the village as human. I think the moral circle is fairly expandable. Fruitarians are a decent example of how far you can stretch it if you're so inclined. I just think that humanity is probably the best natural border for our ethical considerations.

I probably could be persuaded on the environmental and health angles though. That has obvious ramifications for me and my fellow humans.

No it's not wrong to eat flesh if that's what you want to do. I eat some but also enjoy a lot of vegetables and fruit in my diet. There's been times when I haven't eaten flesh but it's been because I haven't wanted to. Listen to what your body tells you...

I'm not sure any more, but recently, Urban has had me salivating first over corned beef and Fray Bentos pies, and now faggots - I nearly succumbed at the farmer's market and ate a huge lump of Brie instead :(:(:(:(

You only get the one life so why on earth are you denying yourself something your body wants. No one is going to thank you for not succumbing.

I don't think it's wrong to eat meat at all, I agree that some of the conditions animals are kept in are terrible but I still have little problem eating meat as far as I see it a balanced diet of meat, veg and fruit is the best way to go.

I dislike the fact that because I eat meat I'm now morally inferior to those who don't, not all vegetarians think like this but a few of them do. I hate anyone who tries to make their position the moral high ground just to sneer at others for not following what is essentially a personal dietary choice.

Agree, it's all about a personal dietary choice, and your body will let you know what you need, and what you don't need.

Not really.

Your body will generally be looking to fatten you up, for when the mammoth and roots supply isn't so good.
