anyone got any tips on the best way to fly there? everything seems quite expensive, the best option atm seems to be heathrow-milan-bari/brindisi on alitalia but even that comes in at £170 + return . . .

ps eco jesus can suck my hairy ones

I'm pretty sure you can get direct flights from Stansted to Bari and Brindisi.

Ryanair fly direct from Stansted to Bari and Brindisi but beware the flights are getting busy already as it is a UK bank holiday. I looked the other day and was about £120 going on the 20th returning a week later. Obviously doesn't start until the 21st but I thought it might be nice to chill for a day before in bari or something and then head down to the madness :)

The centro storico of Bari is pretty nice for a chill for a day. Brindisi's alright, but not as good as Bari. Think Bari is to Brindisi as Bath is to Portsmouth.

Bari's quite nice, I wandered around there for a day, it's got a castle and stuff:

the more eclectic the better for the mornings/daytimes:cool: flights into Rome are about £30 including tax at the moment.. quite a few people do it that way, then get the train down to Metaponto...gonna see about getting some coaches from Rome to the party if there are a lot of people doing it that way.. hopefully see you there :)

the rome coaches sound intersting.. as does the train to metaponto..

looking on seat61 briefly, they seem to think a return to rome from london (train, change@paris) is about £130 ...

:hmm:

:)

Cheapest way to get there is fly to Rome from Stansted - I looked at flight ranging from 1.99 + last week.

It is a 5hr train journey to Metaponto from Rome - Campino

Coming back obviously you want it quicker so I looked at flying home from Bari/Brindisi - think Bari was cheaper to stansted.

All in all I think flight there and back came to £70-80 , not too bad really.

cheers :)

I did forget to mention that I've got to travel on Sunday 24th, or later, as I've got my night in Shef on the 22nd and will need to recover and pack after that. So it'll probably be a bit more expensive as it's a BH weekend. Will look into it tho . . .

Beach update:

Much sad news from Chocolate Button & Odds who after much deliberation have decided the bank balance isnt allowing for Italy this year. :(

Both gutted about it, for me I've only ever missed the first one and been ever since :(

(((purse strings)))

Rave on though guys and gals, I'll be thinking of ya

I haven't had the money for a few years now :(

I too am booked on a flying machine. I'm going to Naples first, gonna wander round Vesuvius for a few days then get the train down to the beach. Not sure where I'm going to be staying, but roby's very graciously promised they'll find me somewhere! ;)

I don't think we're coming this year :(:(

That's a pity mate :( you know chris liberator and jerome are there for all the second week this year  (not trying to persuade you or anything;))

flights have gone right down in price too (bari)

well, it looks like i'm very very unlikely to be there.

unless i get a community care grant :hmm:

italy, beware, if my life sorts out soon...

Mandy gets there in her wheelchair mate? Come on, think can do attitude.

One love

TC:)

easily-infected pin sites, sand in all the screws etc, essential weekly check-ups, too many meds for me to drink much or take anything else :(

it's a non-starter :(

bounce bounce. I can't believe I even considered not going. Sonar and Exit Serbia can suck my sandy balls; it is all about Unsound. I think that I was suffering with temporary insanity and I thank the girls for not taking any nonsense in that regard and forcing me to buy plane tickets!
