Is it Safe to Travel to Turkey This Year?

Turks are very honest, very honorable.

Not in my (albeit limited) experience, they are all moneymoneymoney

well this is Turkish men im talking about anyway, my girlfriend is Turkish and she's just lovely

:( Oh no, I thought Turkey was pretty cheap. We don't go on holiday much cos we don't have a lot of money spare but from what my mum and other people have said I thought that it was a reasonably priced place to visit.

I'm a bit worried now.

Levrek and cipura innit. And don't worry, it's cheaper than London and most of Western Europe--it's just not third world-style cheap.

I didn't find it at all expensive

We went for the poshest meal we could in Hisaronu, 3 courses, 2 bottles of wine, total cost was 97YTL.. about £40!

Take English money, they accept it in most shops. Loads of £10 for 5 t-shirts, £20 for 3 pairs of jeans.

Most levrek and çupra is farmed these days. What you really want is either lagos or dil balik.

The tricks that you get in tourist restaurants are an artifact of the fact that your wage (pretty much whatever it is) is massivly higher than the normal local wage. For example, the guys who I work with (mostly unskilled labourers) are on about 400YTL a month, thats about £150. A damn good meal for two at the best restaurant in town comes in at about 150YTL which is cheap for what you get, but it is still way out of the reach of the ordinary population. If you go to lokanta's or cigerci etc which cater for the locals, you will find that a decent meal is about 5-10YTL. Remember to haggle, and if in doubt, agree the price before you eat etc.

On a different note, my wife is turkish.

Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye are getting expensive and crowded as years go by, Cesme is the new popular place and has an adventage to be close to Izmir, a 3 million and a developed city and close to Christianity's important places, may be you may search about beaches around Izmir

Just got back- was fantastic time, i'll post up some pics in a bit. Didn't do much except lie by the pool, was very very hot
We took out 450 quid for a week and spent the lot- but then we had air conditioning, safety deposit box- and bought a few pressies back. We were spending about 40-50 quid a day. Stayed at the Keskin Hotel in Marmaris, which was basic, but very clean and lovely pool :)

Glad you had a nice time. Is finally cooling down a bit out here, hit 53c in the town centre last Sat. <Dying>
