Is it reasonable to ban Big Brother from my house?

Should I ban my flatmate from watching BB in the living room?

No to a ban - I think a reasonable friendly compromise is in order. Don't start dredging up the fact you pay for the TV! It's not fair for your housemate to hog the TV with something you have no interest in/annoys you. Equally it's not fair for you to completely dictate what can/can't be watched.

My aim for this year is to see how long I can get by without finding out anything about big brother - if I can get by without being able to match up a name to a face, that suits me. Luckily the only person sharing my TV is in completely agreement. :)

What if your flat mate wants to watch the live feed (if there is one this year) while you are asleep - surely that is acceptable?
Ha - he's not that obsessed - does anyone actually watch the live feed?

Blimey, you are all television fascists, aren't you? :D
Fascism is a strong word FFS! I think it's reasonable to not want to be exposed to BB at work AND at home, esp if the BB fan in the house has their own telly.

I haven't completely banned it anyway - I don't mind watching the odd programme or it being on when I'm on the internet - I just don't want to watch it every night - it takes up 2 hours of the evening, so I wouldn't be able to watch a DVD or whatever else was on the telly.

So if you worked as a prostitute would you expect you housemates to refrain from having sex?

No, you shouldn’t ban it - it’s only 13 weeks ffs. :D
A quarter of a year!

He likes to have it on all the time in the background
There's lots of households like that, which is odd. I think it is very reasonable to ask that it be off in the communal area unless somebody is actually watching it.

I remember on a school exchange in Spain, I got up and turned off the telly when we went to eat. The mother thought I was very strange indeed to do such a thing, ran up and turned it back on as a matter of urgency.

I think banning BB from the living room is your civic duty, maybe even a necessary revolutionary act.

If someone insisted on watching BB in my home, I'd bomb the telly.

Just take the direct approach - stride straight into the room - grab the remote, change channel whilst declaring ' we're not watching this shit'....sorted.

how to make friends and influence people eh? ;)

The joys of living alone
Nothing of that ilk finds its way onto my TV - ditto soaps and Hollywood trash.
I can remember years ago making my ex- and my sister watch Brookside usptairs :D

Channel 4 is almost off my "favourites" list now anyway. Unless I see it mentioned in other contexts I'm barely aware of its existence.

If you have to watch it for your job too then I think you have a pretty good reason other than "I just dont like it" for asking him to watch it in his room.

If he loves it so much maybe you could agree to try and scrounge some memorabilia or autographs or get him in the audience of one of those many, many spin off shows as a compromise for him watching it in his room?

heheh - he's a mate - he's not that sad!
I guess I could get him an eviction ticket but I doubt he'd want one

That's the ever-frustrating thing about C4; 90% of the time it's complete populist cheap formulaic shite (or Big Brother and Friends as they're normally listed), but then ocassionally it comes up with something quite brilliant (Father Ted, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos).

I think you should let him watch it, how else is he going to keep in touch with the real world?
Such an interesting & varied cross-section of people will really open his mind to new ideas, cultures & experiences other than his own.
Plus, if the weather improves it will be bikini central :)

Its banned from my house and I live with my best friend lol so I vote yes !

She just trottled off out to her sisters to watch it. :) Everybody's happy.
