You can use an email client like Thunderbird or Outlook or Evolution to download your gmail to your PC. The point of that is to be able to refer to emails even when offline, or if google has problems (it has been known to happen).

Absolutely, although i'm amazed at how resistant some people are to the idea of IMAP.
I've explained how it works, and recommended it to some of my friends, but they just don't seem interested. For the most part, they're either webmail people OR email client (POP) people. The idea of combining the two to get the best of both worlds doesn't seem to appeal to them. Go figure.
I've had blue screen errors for the past week, now all I have to do is try to logon and the machine restarts. Tried various repairs (including system restore and repair/recovery console thing using the Windows CD) attempts to no avail. If I attempt to "reinstall" XP will I lose my files, etc?
