Is it possible to dislike Stevie Wonder?

A big, nay moutainous pile, of 'Some good tunes, not that fussed, wouldn't go out of my way to see him even if free tickets were on offer' apathy.

I can't work up an enthusiasm for his music in a convincing way.

That and "I Just Called to Say I Love You" - it takes a lot of "Sir Duke"s and "Superstition"s to make up for those two :(

But the ending!!! The ENDING! AND the sledgehammer keychange!

(My answer to "what is your earliest memory ever", is sitting in my Mums car listening to IJC as it was her favourite song :) )

(And, fact/trivia/pub quiz fans, it was his first UK no 1)

Bit of a cliche, but I think it is fair to say that Stevie Wonder is a musicians musician (especially funk/soul/jazz musicians). Punters like him too of course, but amongst musos he is nothing short of a god within his genre. Aside from his voice and great playing, its the chord changes and general song writing skills that really stand him apart I think.

My mum loves him more than any other artist, and I feel lucky to have grown up listening to him round the clock at home as a result. I think the thing is Stevie truly loves music in the purest way possible, and that rubs off on you as a fan - theres an innocence and purity in the songwriting that is unmatched. To prove this for example no one on earth could write a tune like Sir Duke: Now I could see why some people wouldnt get into this, but you cant please everyone!

Some really really brilliant songs. Living for the City. He's Mistra Know it all,Free,Seems so Long,As,The crown,Ribbon in thesky,Hey love,You havent done nothing,Smile please,Until you come back to me, please dont go, bird of beauty etc. Some great albums fulfillgness, innervisions etc......And a few duff moments......
But worth checking out loads and loads of his lesser known songs.... A fantastic human being.....

a mate of mine went to see him play live. during one of his harmonica solos, he chucked a tangerine at him. the fake fuck ducked and then stopped the gig.

The first song I really listened to by Stevie was Uptight (Everything's Alright) when I was thirteen. The energy of the song and the lyrics touched me and a connection was made. It made the hairs on my body all stand up. It still does
