Is it legal to have a toilet off a kitchen?

its only one door now, the regs were changed as someone else has said. My brother used to live in a new development with a single door between a small lo, and the kitchen/living room.

i drink a whisky drink

i drink an larger drink

and when i need a piss

i take a piss in the kitchen sink.. im a modern urniating kind of guy

homer simpson is a god :D

I always thought it had to be two doors. I am amazed that they have recently relaxed this rule, because in general building regs get stricter as time goes on, don't they? Like: numerous rules on electrical safety, plumbing, types of heater allowed, insulation becoming mandatory for new buildings, requirements for buildings to be more disabled-friendly, etc etc.

I am really shocked that someone turned round and said "yes, lets have people take a dump right behind the door into the kitchen"!?

I have no idea where the building regs have been moved on the government websites now but this may help:-
Approved Document to Part G (para 1.2):-A space containing a toilet should be separated by a door from a space used for the preparation of food (including a kitchen and any space in which washing up is done)."
They are here:

and the specific one is here:

You don't need 2 doors. You may have done at one time (and I was certainly told that you did, and have seen some strange arrangements in order to accommodate two doors!), but you certainly don't now....

Just because you can have only one door doesn't mean you have to.

I used to live with this - not good IMHO.

Feng Shui books will tell you it's a fault which can only be cured by putting the bathroom somewhere else.

are builders trained in Feng Shui
They should be! Another bathroom fault, which I've lived with, is having the front door open in a direct line to the bathroom. All the energy goes down the pan. This just feels wrong instinctively now. As does leaving the loo seat up.

If Feng Shui is so fucking great then how come China has such a long history of war and famine? You would've thought all of this esoteric bullshit would've lead to a society free of all ills.

Last year there was a story in the news about two Feng Sui consultants in the US who got into a gunfight over a tree. One said it was bad for the 'energy' and said it needed to go. The argument develped and one of them shot the other dead.

Very harmonious.

Aye, and Cherie Blair is a bit of a fan of Feng Shui, isn't she? That should be enough to put anyone off!

Distinguishing sense from nonsense isn't your forte Jazzz, sorry to say.
