Is God a miserable cowardly bastard and a bad parent?

Religious get out clause

Hi Soloqi,

why is it that if good things happen god is given the credit, but never the blame for bad things?

The lack of proof, the power of prayers don't work. Strange kind of god. Does he only grant your prayer if your daughter/son is worried about not passing their exams/getting a job etc, yet is powerless against a terrible event like 9/11 happening?

This sounds like the usual get out clause that people use. :(

God is not responsible for killing and torture, people are. It just so happens that they do it in the name of god.

Humans can be good, but it takes control, granted we are capable of terrible things but if people used their intuition they will know that it is not what god want.

Well, the good news is trixiet that you can continue with this 'God', but only in the concept as hinted at by your use of " ".

But there's some subtle changes required. Firstly, quit the believing! Secondly, recognise that we can indeed have a 'God', but that it's nothing at all to do with what those religious maniacs have been banging on about for so long.

I don't know if this will do it for you, but go back to any texts that have this superman 'God' in them, and replace the word 'consciousness' every time. See how the text alters in the meaning it gives you...

'God' is formless, timeless, and the state of being that humans have long aspired to reach. 'He' really is nothing more than a state of no-mind.

God is, i am not. I am, God is not... it's all about consciousness. In pure consciousness there is no God as described by the religious nutters, but the person with that pure consciouness is God.

Confusing, or makes sense?!

makes sense to me :)

I just meant that if a non-believer asks a believer about God that you're meant to say why/what/how you believe in God.

It's all I meant, but if you've explained it somewhere other than just saying 'there just is'...then i'd be interested to read it.

Seriously.

Yes, but I can't be bothered. Because I've done it enough times on this board.

there's erwin schrodinger's view, - the sum total of all minds is one- I kind of agree with. There's spinoza, - search on me and spinoza and you'll find it, if you like.. or you could pm me.
I believe in God on the basis of experiences which remain utterly convincing.

And yesterday I won 285 quid on a horse called christy beamish (3.45 at aintree). I picked it cause I liked the name, and put a tenner on it, and also a fiver on the 6/12 forecast, because the sixth of december's my birthday. Not the best I've seen, but nice to catch it.

Well, like I said, on the basis of experience, both extraordinary and everyday, plus reason and observation, ..

The only explanation possible for the many extraordinary things in my life is that the world is not a mundane accident, but a purposeful and intelligent creation. And the only explanation possible for it being so purposeful intelligent and communicative is that there is God.

Kind of agree with what fela said about God as pure consciousness, but not that that idea has nothing whatsoever to do with traditional religious accounts of God.

As i understand the accounts, God was around for six days and then disappeared, never to be seen again.

What kind of father figure is that?!

But, try replacing the word God in any scriptures or accounts you read about 'him' with 'consciousness', and things might start to account for your experiences mate.

In terms of the extraordinary things that have happened in your life, arguably everything on this planet is extraordinary. And that everything is nature and existence...

That is the real 'God'...!

Sounds sensible, I need to think on it a while though! But a good post and thanks.
