Is Catherine Tate going to be Dr Who's assitant next series?

Well, Geoffrey Palmer for one.

Freema Agyeman had a bit part in the cybermen vs daleks one before becoming Martha Jones (it later turned out she was playing Martha's cousin  )

Toshiko was in Dr Who as something or other, and then ended up in Torchwood.

But that's got absolutely nothing to do with anything....
I'll shut up.

Isn't there some guy who is in nearly every episode as a monster?

That I could believe absolutely but I was wondering about folk playing multiple characters rather than unrecognisable/continuing.

I thought it was good. Got a bit melodramatic in parts and too much slo mo and stuff but it's the beeb's Xmas extravaganza isn't it? Good family fun and all that.

Probably Colin Baker is the one best known for playing mutliple roles in doctor who. Might be wrong though.

Actually, Kylie looked the most beautiful that I've ever seen her (in Doctor Who). She has acquired an ageless maturity of late, at times, reminding me of 30-something Kathryn Hepburn, at others, of a younger Helen Mirren when she graced the British Stage more than she does now. She should definitely explore more character roles.

And porn.

Thats a terrible thing to say about another person. I doubt if you or anyone else here could out-act her. Maybe she wasn't Dame-Helen-Mirren perfect but she did a perfectly good job, in what is really just a high-powered children's adventure programme on Christmas Day. It's only showbusiness, for goodness' sake.

 Fog gods sake, am I not allowed to express a negative opinion about Kylie Minogue or something?
If I think someone's acting is shit, why on earth is that a terrible thing to say.

You didn't say that. What you said was

Sorry if I came across as grumpy. I don't have a problem with criticising an actor's acting. I do have a problem with talking about the person in that way, given we don't know her.

of course i wasn't talking about Kylie the person.
I thought it was obvious i was talking about her performance in dr who since that's what the previous posts were about

I believe Douglas Adams was first with the starship titanic idea :p

Did anyone else spot 42 as one of The Doctor's guesses as the override code for the Host? ;)

She's starting to look her age aswell. Which is kind of scary when you're so used to seeing her looking glossy and perfect.

Agreed - I found it really distracting

Re: Starship Titanic
It's worth noticing that there was a Dr.Who "New Adventure" book in 1997, called Ship of Fools, which dealt with a luxury starliner being sabotaged as part of a insurance fiddle by the owner....

just caught up with this (and the bride one) on PVR.

the titanic one was really badly written, imo - lots of borderline deus ex machina bollocks and dodgier than usual pseudo scientific bollocks. And that was a much bigger problem than kylie's acting...

on the subject of which, she was hampered by three things: seriously iffy, over sentimental dialogue; some bizarre hybrid accent that she clearly wasn't comfortable with; and her botox - which has made her effectively incapable of showing emotion through her face - all three combined did make her wooden... only one or two of which can she be held accountable for.

catherine tate....? needs to tone down the 'comedy tone of voice' shtick - at times during her special she was quite good - but when she was in full force it was irritating to me. much better written episode, though.

Are you rolling your eyes because you don't think they should use preexisting Who stories?

They do that quite often I think.

Fair enough. My mistake was in looking at the words you used and giving them their ordinary meaning.

There's plenty of actors on urban. There's also plenty people involved in theatre/drama one way or another who know what they're talking about (most of the time).

Anyway - people are entitled to an opinion on whether they found someones acting believable or not without some groupie hysteric getting their knickers in a twist.

If you'd given the words their ordinary meaning you'd have known full well what HB meant.
