The rise festival has previously been organised by the mayor in conjunction with the National Assembly against Racism and the TUC. I find it difficult to imagine great co-operation between these groups and Johnson's administration. If the festival does go ahead it'll probably be of a different character last year's one.

At one mayoral huskings Johnson was questioned about statement's he'd made about cutting funding for cultural events. He replied that he wasn't opposed to such events but said that he favoured them being sponsored by businesses rather than tax payers money. He gave the example of a Polish event being financed by a vodka company Apparently our world is for sale.

He has also pledged that future European Social Forum events ("the European gathering of Marxists and anarchists" as he called it) will never see a penny of public money under his administration.
