Is bleach your all purpose cleaner?

i love the smell of bleach.
Me too!! I love it when you get some on your hands and it smells like that all day. In my mind it smells like a really clean (and certainly not to be ingested) version of cum.

Plus, bleach is great and it makes your sink so clean and shiny.

However, now I have a cleaner (get me!!) so I only use a bit of kitchen spray after yet another attempt at cooking has gone horribly wrong!

No don't take any notice of Rorymac; Mr Muscle is fine. It isn't any better than other products but there is nothing dodgy about it. Bleach on the other hand is just downright dangerous. No you cannot garlge with it. Use it in WCs only. The cheap and cheerful general purpose cleaner as used by your grandmum is Sodium Carbonate crystals. The brand I use comes in a plastic tub with an orange label and calls itself Soda Crystals. It contains Orange Oil which does nothing. It can be used for all purpose cleaning of surfaces, tables, floors etc. You can use it for de-greasing frying pans and cleaning of cooking utensils. You can clean the stain off cups by filling them up and leaving them to soak with a weak solution of the crystals in water. It can be added to your clothes washing if you want to but should not be necessary.

Sodium Carbonate is an irritant and should be used carefully. It is however not to be confused with much more dangerous Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) which is lethal stuff and will dissolve your skin and muscle if you come into contact with it.

Nor should it be confused with Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) obviously.

Sodium Carbonate is sometimes sold as Liquid Sodium Carbonate crystals. This is less economical.

A friend of mine swears by a bit of bleach on a cotton wool bud for cheap d.i.y teeth whitening. I don't think I would dare to try it

i use some spray action bathroom cleaner for the bathroom and the kitchen.
i have cillit bang - grime and lime for down the loo (horrid limescale).
and i have glass spray - but i don't often clean the mirrors/windows.

i have bleach - but only use it if the drains get smelly, or when i'm cleaning out the bins.

I've always thought using bleach was a massive environmental crime akin with driving a Hummer?
It's certainly what's been drummed into my head since birth.
So I never use it.
Stinks anyway

Same here. I only ever used bleach when I was told to use it in my job. Any home cleaning was done with soap, bicarb+vinegar or soda crystals.

Bleach really is horrible.

yep - big up vinegar - I cleaned the bathroom with balsamic vinegar the other day cos I'd run out of regular - smells much nicer than bleach and works better!

Yeah Yeah Yeah. If you have got that sort of money what are you doing cleaning? You should hand the job over to one of your servants.

I'm not rich! Just lazy.
It's not that expensive anyway - arguably cheaper than bleach!

Bleach is great for that - gets rid of all those stains on your cups
I never wash mine - I have a shiny black mug and never have milk in my tea

My household cleaners are washing up liquid in the kitchen, shower gel in the bathroom, and I slosh pickling vinegar in the loo when I can be arsed.

.

I used to use spray bleach onto my paintings through a diffuser thingy - it was excellent for that. Otherwise I don't use it except for maybe twice a
year for whitening the limescale in the toilet which gets stained from all the coffee grounds we chuck down the loo.

Otherwise we use random bathroom cleaners for the bathroom, vinegar and newspaper for the windows and general limescale removal. Bit of washing up liquid and elbow grease for everywhere else. Tried Cillit Bang recently to try and remove some grease off the wall behind the cooker - don't recall being impressed..

Don't use pine scented cleaners if you have a furry feline friend.. Unless you're trying to poison them...
