Is Beckham About to Kill the Premiership?

PS, I stand by what i said above, but truthfully, there may indeed be a bit of ABB involved in my opinion.

he is shit tho'.

Just out of interest, did anyone see the Storyville documentary on BBC2 last night? It was about the New York Cosmos and the NASL in the 70's. Very insightful it was.

Real Won nowt ( 1 title IIRC ) - being player of the seaosn for team that consistanly wins nowt in when you are there isnt a great acolade ?

I do pay attention to football btw

But Chris was talking about being player of the season in the very year that they won that title.

Means summat surely?

Er... he was one of the players of the season for Real, indeed the whole Primera Liga..

There was something on Eurosport about Cappello following him to the US as a manager of one of their teams, now that Real have dumped him. If he does, I bet Beckham's glad he isn't going to Galaxy.

Hes only going to the States to flog brand Beckham anyway you get him you have to take his other half as well,no young ambious player is going to go there, all the talented US players are playing in Europe, any more on Freddie Adu btw,you know the next big thing in football:rolleyes:,rearding R.Madrid this season I thought Van Nisselroy was the main reason they won the title, they almost threw it away in the last match, only after taking the infectual Beckham off did they manage to win the match and the title.

Nah he saved their skin on more than one occassion and was played out of position on more than one occassion. Ruud was good, but Reyes actually won them the league in that match.

If anything Casillas won Real the league by not conceeding more goals.

Not saying he did'nt do his part, but the way it was reported over here one would think he won it single handly

Are all the stars about to head to the US?

What happens to European football and the Premiership once all the money is in the US?

Given the history of Posh and Beck's you wouldn't be wise to back against the success of glaming soccer in the US.

On the other hand he's a bit old and she's a bit hat also. Are 'they' just going to bring interest in US soccer to a European market or, are they going to be joined by established names here?

Will soccer ever be bigger than football in the US?

So many questions about a couple of semi-retired models :D

In short; the ramifications of Beckham and the Beckham media moving west. Big or, inconsequential?

The arrogance of Beckham in thinking that he can single-handedly turn soccer into a major support in America is staggering. I predict he'll be targeted by the bootboys and will spend more time on the treatment table than on the pitch (he's already becoming injury-prone) and he'll be retired and back in Blighty within two years. Hopefully leaving his tiresome wife behind.

Is'nt he getting paid shit more money than his teamates? that'll do wonders for team morale Im sure

Didn't he get injured playing for England just before?

I don't think this is inconsequential. Teenagers buy into this stuff also. Whoever is the publicity machine behind the Beckham's is extremely good. They're as big in Spain as they are in the UK. High profile celebrity status in the States will inevitably raise interest in football. If Beckham is successful over there (in terms if money as much as anything else) then you can bet other high profile, European and Premiership players will be pushed by agents to follow. I'm not sure if that would be a bad thing or, not.

All sports are big business in the US. Even moderate success can pay big. It could well end up attracting many players.

they are awash with high profile sportsmen/women.

they all have shit loads of money look at merican football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey, skate boarding and monster truck racing but to name a few.

agents must be creaming themselves over the ammount of money that is potentialy to be made but i cannot see an exodus of european bassed players jetting off to the states to be told that they have to play to the crowd.

beckhams not been in the prem for three seasons now we seem to have survived so i doubt anything will change.

and all thse footballers? who? baring in mind the ronaldo to LA thing is utter bollocks unless he is prepared to play for 80k a year like abel xavier does. One galactico per team is the rules over there.

Going to make as much difference as a sheffield united court appeal.

If the Cosmos couldn't do it, I doubt Beckham on his own will

Well that's the nub of the issue. Football has to fight some of the deeply ingrained prejudices that militate against it: the commercial sponsors and the "let's keep America free from foreign influence" lobby.

played well second half of the season been there 6 years done fuck all except sell shirts and fuck england up most overated player ever

If they are professional, see that he is a lot better than them and can maybe learn one or two things then its not a problem. Money aint everything.

Nobody is going to give a fuck other than a passing interest in seeing if he runs around opposing teams like they weren't there because he just left a team that, arguably is one of the best in the world, to a team that is generally just about league level at best.

Has anyone watched MLS football? It's all running, absolutely fuck all skill and no end product. End to end, end to end, end to end, please not end to end again, arggg end to end, end to end, noooo how many times, end to end, end to end....

IT SHIT. Quite the worst football I've ever seen.

If someone wants to go to a country that cares fuck all about football, with prizes that are worth fuck all then fine. I'll forget them in a flash.

MSL is like any other US spectator sport: dull as ditchwater.
