Is 100% cotton bedsheets a waste of money?

Be warned though, last time I went there I came out with all manner of stuff like a kitchen blowtorch, fondue set, wok...all practically untouched 2 years later!

It's worth the money, I reckon. On a hot sweaty night, you're glad of cotton.

Linen sheets would be the thing on a hot sweaty night* - though new ones of those would cost £100s - but you could hand them down to your grandchildren .

*cold as ice in winter though

i asked this recently and secret squirrel came up with LaRedoute who are a french catalogue that sells brightly coloured plain cotton sheets stupidly cheaply. i got some fabulous colours. they also do egyptian cotton stuff and polycotton.

you can also pick up cheap ex-hotel stuff at places like brick lane market.

If you can wait for the next John Lewis sale (probably after Christmas now) you will be able to pick up top-notch egyptian cotton sheets etc at bargain prices.

When the start date is announced create yourself a reminder, as the good stuff goes quickly...

I picked up some well cheap 100% Egyptian cotton sheets and a duvet cover from my one and only trip to TK Maxx.

Lovely they are'n'all.

Seeing as cotton farming is one of agriculture's most destructive practices, does anyone know a good source of organic cotton sheets?


(To grow the cotton for one pair of jeans, about 340g of fertilizers and pesticides are used)

I need bed sheets and duvet covers but most of the cheaper stuff is Polycotton. Should I just save me pennies and get poly cotton or invest in some quality bed linen?

I love pure cotton bed sheets once you have them you never go back

Primark and asda do 100% cotton sheets and duvet covers really cheaply.

I love the one we got from asda, It was about £30 for a king size duvet set but its SOOO comfy

Matalan do really nice 200tc Egyptian cotton sheets. I picked mine up in the Dalston one. I got a king size bedding set for £29.

M&S have a range of 400thread count egyptian cotton bed sheets in their autograph range, but they're charging a lot for them. not sure if it's particularly good value for money.

Yeah but no-one I know but one of my grandmothers irons their sheets. And she only does it 'cause she's bored.

You spend 1/3 of your life in your bed, you don't really want to skimp on what you're lying on. Oh and ebay also has great quality cotton sheets, you can get 400tc ones for about £18 each. I'm planning on treating myself for my birthday.

mmmm - now will feel terribly guilty about non-organic cotton sheets... especially as I have worked in the organic fairtrade industry... greenfibres might do some...
